The most important thing to pursue was
self-knowledge.

Admitting one’s ignorance is the beginning of true


knowledge.

In Philosophical term:
It is the being, which is the source of a person’s
consciousness. It is the agent responsible for an
individual’s thoughts and actions.
In Psychology:
It is also defined as the cognitive and affective
representation of one’s identity, it is then defined in terms
of human characteristics such as behavior and thought.
In Spiritual realm:
Self includes a person’s life purpose, meaning, and
aspirations.
PERSONALITY
In psychology, it refers to unique and relatively enduring set
of behaviours, feelings, thoughts, and motives that
characterize an individual (Feist and Rosenberg, 2012).

Two key components being highlighted in this definition:

• Uniqueness

• Relatively enduring – means being consistent, over


different situations and over time.

If throughout time, this is perceived from adolescent to


adulthood, then there is consistency.
Consistency means
most of the time, but, not all the time.
PERSONALITY
Essence of who we are and is the embodiment of one’s
physical, psychological, cognitive, affective, and
spiritual self.

When we speak of “self”, we will describe


it in personality terms
How to get to know your “self”?
1. Get to know your personality
The idea is to get to know your personality inside out, to
know what you are and what you are not like. Understand what
makes you react a certain way in life’s myriad of situations. Ask
yourself “Why did I do that?” and answer it.

2. Get to know your core values
Your core values are the morale codes and the principles
you hold near and dear to your heart. 
In your school, in your home, in all aspects of your life,
which values can you never compromise? Those are your core
values.

3. Get to know your body

How well do you Breathing? Flexibility?

Have you ever said “my body can’t do this” and that “my
body type won’t do that” without even trying a physical

Your dreams and hopes create the pathway into your


future. They help you build the life you can be proud of living.

Your dreams matter!

Your dreams are worth going after!

5. Get to know your likes and dislikes

Take the time to define your likes and dislikes, and don’t


put it up for a vote among family and friends. You decide..

Stay true to your likes and dislikes. Nobody has to like


them but you!

Group yourselves into five, and on a clean


sheet of paper, each one shall draw a symbol
of what represents his/herself that identifies
his/her unique traits over the others. You will
then share the unique characteristics, habits,
and experiences you have to your group.
Assignment

Write on your journal your thoughts and


feelings about what you have discovered and
understood about your “self”, your
personality and personality traits, and your
reflection regarding the question “Who Am
I?”

Personality is influenced by both nature


(heredity/genetic make-up) and nurture
(environment). There is no single gene that
creates the trait.

Traits are always a combination of genes,


environmental exposure and experiences,
and cultural backgrounds.
