Enhanced Flexible Timeslot Assignment
Enhanced Flexible Timeslot Assignment
– For example, a class 33 mobile can handle 5 DL and 4 UL timeslots, but only 6
simultaneously (i.e., 5+1 , 2+4 etc. for DL +UL).
– Also it is the network (namely the PCU) that must detect the change of data
flow and reallocate to a DL+UL combination, a process that can take a
relatively long time.
Why EFTA
– With EFTA , an MS is always allocated resources on the sum of its UL
and DL timeslots capabilities, and it is the actual data flow and
direction that dictates the usage of the allocated timeslots.
• Benefits:
– Higher efficiency in timeslot allocation and scheduling since the BSC does not have to
make assumptions on the direction of the traffic,
– UL and DL timeslots can be fully utilized as the mobile is always allocated on all its up-
and downlink timeslots, and it is the actual traffic that decides the usage of the allocated
timeslots.
– Ex: 5+4 assignment and then UL data is prioritized
