M
What is a Conceptual
Framework?
A conceptual framework includes one or more formal
c
theories (in part or whole) as well as other concepts and
empirical findings from the literature. It is used to show
relationships among these ideas and how they relate to
SLIDESMANIA.CO
the research study. Conceptual frameworks are commonly
seen in qualitative research in the social and behavioral
sciences, for example, because often one theory cannot
fully address the phenomena being studied.
M
Why do we use conceptual frameworks
in research papers?
A conceptual framework is used in a research paper to explain the key
concepts or variables and the relationships
c between them that need to be studied.
Simply put, conceptual framework is the way ideas are organized to achieve a
SLIDESMANIA.CO
research project's purpose and explanation is the most common method
employed.
While a conceptual framework means a researcher's perception about the
M
research problem, it is still an arranged and self-explanatory method drafted for
the readers.
The Roles and Uses of a Conceptual
Framework
1. Helping you thoughtfully develop, refine, and delimit your research questions
2. Helping you develop an appropriate framework for the collection of data and the
c
development of instruments
3. Serving as a guide and frame for the selection of data analysis frameworks and
processes
SLIDESMANIA.CO
4. It provides specific variables and shows how these variables are related
5. Providing the overall structure in which you can articulate and examine the goals of
M
your study and its intended audiences
What are the different types of conceptual
frameworks?
1.Taxonomy.
In this type of conceptual framework, the phenomena of your study are grouped together into
categories without presenting the relationship among them. The point of this type of conceptual
framework is to distinguish the categories from one another.
c
2. Visual Presentation.
In this type of conceptual framework, the relationship between the phenomena and variables of
SLIDESMANIA.CO
your study is presented. Using this conceptual framework implies that your study provides
empirical evidence to prove the relationship between variables.
3. Mathematical Description.
In this type of conceptual framework, the relationship between phenomena and variables of your
M
study are described using mathematical formulas. Also, the extent of relationship between these
variables are presented with specific quantities.
How to Make Conceptual Framework: 4 Steps.
1. Identify the important variables of your study.
There are two important variables that you must identify in your study: the independent and
the dependent variables. You may refer to your research question to determine your research’s
independent and dependent variables.
2. Think how the variables are related
Usually, the variables of a study have a direct relationship. If a change in one of your
c
variables leads to a corresponding change to another variable, then they might have this kind of
relationship.
3. Create a visual diagram or model
SLIDESMANIA.CO
Now that you’ve identified the variables and their relationship, you may now create a visual
diagram that summarizes them.
M
Usually, shapes such as rectangles, circles, and arrows are used for the model. There are
different ways in how you may create a visual diagram or model for your conceptual framework.
The three most common models are the independent-dependent variable model, the input-process-
output (IPO) model, and concept maps.
a. Using the Independent-
c. Using Concept Maps.
Dependent Variable Model.
b. Using the Input-Process-
c
Output (IPO) Model.

4. Explain your conceptual framework in narrative form.
c
Provide a brief explanation of your conceptual framework. State the important variables, their
relationship, and the research outcome.

M
What is a Research Design? c
A Research Design is a methodical, well-organized
procedure utilized by a researcher, or a scientist to carry
out a scientific study. It is a comprehensive co-existence of
SLIDESMANIA.CO
already identified elements and any other information or
data leading to a reasonable end result.
M
What is the purpose of Research
Design?
A Research Design provides a scientist, or a researcher with a well-
structured, objective plan of study that cenables him or her to efficiently assess
causes and effect relationships between various dependent and independent
variables such as the Classic Controlled Experiment.

M
What are the types of Research Design?
1.Descriptive research design
This is a theory-based design, where the researcher is primarily interested in
describing the topic that is the subject of the research. It is applied to case
studies, naturalistic observations, surveys, and so on.
2.Correlational research design
c
Correlational design allows the researcher to establish some kind of a relation
between two closely related topics or variables. It’s a non-experimental research
design type that requires at least two groups of data.
SLIDESMANIA.CO
3. Experimental research design
Whether it is a field experiment, a controlled experiment, or a quasi-experiment,
this is one of the research design types that establish a relation between the
cause and effect of a particular happening.
M
What are the types of Research Design?
4. Diagnostic research design
Diagnostic research is one of the research design types that aim to examine the
underlying cause of a certain situation or phenomenon. It can help you find out
more about the factors that lead to specific issues or challenges your customers
c
might be facing.
5. Explanatory research design
Again, the name is self-explanatory. Explanatory research design is used to
SLIDESMANIA.CO
further expand, explore, and explain the researcher’s ideas and theories. This
type of research design is used to elaborate on the unexplored aspects of a
particular topic and try to explain the missing pieces.

How to create a Research Design?
Step 1: Consider your aims and approach
Before you can start designing your research, you should already have a clear idea of the research
question you want to investigate.
Step 2: Choose a type of research design
Within both qualitative and quantitative approaches, there are several types of research design to
c
choose from. Each type provides a framework for the overall shape of your research.
Step 3: Identify your population and sampling method
Your research design should clearly define who or what your research will focus on, and how you’ll go
SLIDESMANIA.CO
about choosing your participants or subjects.
Step 4: Choose your data collection methods
Data collection methods are ways of directly measuring variables and gathering information. They allow
M
you to gain first-hand knowledge and original insights into your research problem.
How to create a Research Design?
Step 5: Plan your data collection procedures
As well as deciding on your methods, you need to plan exactly how you’ll use these methods to collect
data that’s consistent, accurate, and unbiased.
c
Step 6: Decide on your data analysis strategies
On its own, raw data can’t answer your research question. The last step of designing your research is
planning how you’ll analyze the data.
