CUSHIONS

• A cushion is a soft bag of some ornamental material, stuffed


with wool, hair, feathers, polyester staple fiber, non-woven
material, or even paper torn into fragments.
• It may be used for sitting or kneeling upon, or to soften the
hardness or angularity of
• a chair or couch.
• Decorative cushions often have a patterned cover material,
and are used as decoration for furniture.
• Cushions and rugs can be used temporarily outside to soften a
hard ground
CUSHION COVERS
Cushion covers come in all different colours and textures, and prices can vary
tremendously. Choosing the right cushion covers is an important part of decorating and
furnishing any living space, whether it's a bedroom, office space, or dining area.
• Materials
Cotton and polyester are some of the more affordable materials used to make cushion
covers, while authentic silk and leather covers can be quite expensive. Consider the
function of your cushion cover before choosing a material
• Function
Cushion covers serve a wide range of functions that depend on where in the home or
office they are placed. Rooms where you'll find cushion covers include bedrooms, living
rooms, kitchens, studies, playrooms, and dining rooms. Cushion covers are also used
outdoors for pool and deck furniture, though these covers tend to be either waterproof
or easily removable because of the rain. Cushion covers not only protect the cushions
inside them, they also add colour and flair to a couch, sofa, bed, or chair.

Cushion covers come in all different styles, many of which are associated with specific
countries and regions around the world. Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern-style cushion
covers are popular and often come with ornate patterns, trimmings and frills.

CUSHION FILLING
A Cushion filling is a part of the beginning of making a cushion.
These give structure to a cushion and can be regarded as the
"skeleton" to support the colourful outer covering.
Types of Cushion filling
The kind of fillings you use for a cushion pad depends on what
degree of support or comfort you are looking for:
• Soft
• Firm
• SLIP COVER
A slipcover (also called loose cover) is a fitted protective cover
that may be slipped off and on a piece of upholstered furniture.
Slipcovers are usually made of cloth.
Slipcovers slip on and off, they come fresh, and may be removed
for seasonal change, cleaning, moving, or storage.
Slipcovers are sometimes defined as "clothing for furniture."
• LINEN
Linen is normally known as cloth or thread made of Flax. Flax is a plant
of natural fiber (cellulose fiber).
The meaning for linens is widely use in hospitality context, which is
household article made of cloth.

• Bed linen means all the bed cloth placed on bed such as Bed
sheet, bedspread, blankets, continental quilt, pillows etc. Bed

• Bed sheets should be long enough to give a good tuck in , and
a good turn over at the top to protect the blanket and quilt
from grease, newspaper print, the base of breakfast tray
• For single bed of 85 x 190 cm sheet should be 177cmx 274cm
For double bed with size 135cmx190cm sheet should be 238x
274cm
• For king size bed with size of 182x200cm sheet should be
274cmx 297cm
Pillowslips
Pillowslips will be made of the same material as the bed sheets

Pillows
Pillow consists of various fillings, covered with a strong closely woven materials,
ticking, which was formerly striped.
Standard size is 48 x 73 cm
Fillings of Pillows are:
Down, Small feathers, Rubber or Plastic foam, Synthetic fibres, Kapok
Bolsters
Bolsters are elongated pillow which stretch the width used on divans , settees,
sometime on beds but now they are not used on bed
They act as a support to arm.
Blankets
These are available in different sizes to fit all standard beds.
Wool blankets are soft, warm, and wear well
It should be light weight for comfort
Colour varies from hotel to hotel
They are little shorter than sheets e.g 177cmx 254cm single, 228cmx254cm double

Eiderdowns
Eiderdowns are filled with down which
strictly should be from eider duck due
to expenses they are often filled with curled feathers, man made
fibres or other materials

Duvet are continental quilt give warmth without excessive
weight
Filled with down or synthetic fibres
They are used with bottom sheets only and to
avoid getting dirty very frequently they used top
sheet.

Duvet covers are large bags of cotton or more usually polyester/
cotton fabric into which the duvet or continental quilt is put

Bed cover / Bedspread
Bedspread are used to cover the bed during the day and where
‘turning down’ is still done , may be removed at night, folded
and put away
The colour and pattern must suit the décor of the room,

• TABLE LINEN
It is a requisitive part of catering facilities and a component of
decoration.
Tablecloth – an element of table setting, it should look similar to the
interior design. An appropriate size of the tablecloth should match
an appearance of the table and comfort of the guests. Banquet
tablecloth - a tablecloth intended for laying long tables for parties
with standing and sitting character. It is laid on long tables which are
set in the same configuration.
Slip cloth (napperon) - a big tablecloth which comprises a
decorative part of the table, it is always laid in length or diagonally
on the table.
Laufrs- big decorative tablecloths always with embroidery or lace.
We can put flowers, candles and mirrors on it.
Skirt (skirtings) - gathered, ornamental flounces, used for decorating
the sides of tables, usually for buffets. We attach it to the tablecloth
at the height of the table top with the use of clasps or Velcro’s.
