Memory is the process of encoding, storing, and retrieving information over time. It has three main parts: encoding involves entering information into memory storage, storage saves memory over time in different memory systems like sensory memory, short-term memory, and long-term memory. Retrieval takes information back out of storage. There are many factors that can influence memory, like how attention and meaning are applied during encoding, as well as interference and decay over time during storage that can impact successful retrieval of memories.
