Johann Venn developed the Venn diagram to visualize basic set operations including union, intersection, complement, and difference. The document then defines each of these set operations - union combines elements that are in set A, B, or both; intersection includes elements common to both sets; complement are elements that are not in the given set; and difference are elements in set A but not in set B.

Basic set Operations 1.Union of sets 2. Intersection of Sets 3. Complement of a Set 4. Difference of Sets Basic set Operations Union of sets The union of sets A and B is the set consisting of all the elements which belong to either A or B or both. We write it as AꓴB, read as A union of B. Union of sets Intersection of sets The intersection of two sets A and B is the set of elements common to both A and B. We write it as A∩B, read as “ A intersection B.” Intersection of sets Complement of a sets The complement of set A is the consisting of all elements in the universal set ꓴ which are not elements of set A . It is denoted by A’ or Ā or A ͨ, read as “complement of set A.” Complement of a sets Difference of sets The difference of sets A and B, denoted as A-B ( or A\B ), is the elements which belongs to A but which does not belong B. Difference of sets
