working. _________
D
2. The amount of water to the size of a water bottle._________
3. The number of persons sharing a pie to the size of slices per
I
share._________
4. The area of the wall to the amount of paint to be D
used.________
5. The timeIspent in walking to the rate at which a person
walks._________ I
6. The age of a used car to its resale value._________ D
7. The distance an airplane flies to the time of travel._________
8. The speed of aIcar to the amount of time to reach its
destination._________
Inverse Variation
Inverse Variation
- It is a relationship between two variables
in which the product of the two variables is a
constant.
- In particular, when one variable increases
the other decreases in proportion so that the
product is unchanged. So for two quantities x & y,
it states that:
“As x increases, y decreases”
“As x decreases, y increases”

Inverse Variation
Situations illustrating Inverse Variation:
1. The number of hours to finish a job to the
number of men working.
2. The number of persons sharing a pie to the size
of slices per share.
3. The time spent in walking to the rate at which a
person walks.
4. The age of a used car to its resale value.
5. The speed of a car to the amount of time to reach
its destination.
