EVM PREPARATION

• Open Cover – Set the thumb wheel (01 for first BU and
02 for second BU)

• Open Ballot Screen – Place Ballot Paper with candidates


no. 1 to 16 on BU1 and candidate number 17 to NOTA
on BU2, properly aligned, (Signed on reverse by RO) –
Close Screen

• Unmask/Mask Candidate Buttons


• Put long thread through ballot paper screen, attach
tag and seal on knot.

• Close BU’s – Tag & Seal Right Corners

• Pink Paper Seal - record in Annex-19, copy to


representatives

VVPAT PREPARATION

MAKE PROVISION FOR A SEALING TABLE

DON’T

• Open the screws of CU / BU as it will activate the tamper


switch rendering the unit non –functional
• Keep EVM near heater or other hot objects
• Allow molten lac/sealing wax to fall on the EVM while
sealing
• Force open the covers or doors of various sections
DON’T

• Remove the Strip Seal until the Control Unit is on counting


table
• Exert undue pressure on latches, hinges etc.
• Force the connector fixed at the end of the Interconnecting
cable into the connector of Control Unit in the reverse
direction
DON’T

• Pull the Interconnecting cable while disconnecting it


from the Control Unit without pressing the spring type
clips on the hood of the connector

• To cross check mock poll data cleared and votes being


recorded – check total after first vote is polled

• During commissioning, despatch or mock poll if BU/ CU/


VVPAT does not work, only the defective unit will be
replaced. Only during actual poll all three are replaced if
BU/CU stops working
Officers preparing EVMs and VVPATs, after
preparing them, should give a certificate that they
have prepared the machines as per the
instructions given and checked them, and that
they understand fully that in case of any error
found, they would be held responsible for lapse.
