DATABASES

Research databases are organized collections of information that can be searched to retrieve bibliographic citations, abstracts, or full text articles. Some major research databases include Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, ERIC, IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, Directory of Open Access Journals, and JSTOR. These databases vary in coverage, access options, discipline, and provider but aim to index scholarly literature, publications, and research across many subject areas.

such as periodical, articles, books, graphics and multimedia that can be searched to
retrieve information.
• Databases can be general or subject oriented with bibliographic citations, abstracts,

• The sources indexed may be written by scholars, professionals or generalists.
• Research databases that are retrieved on the World Wide Web are generally non-fee
based, lack in-depth indexing, and do not index proprietary resources.
• Subscription or commercial databases are more refined with various types of
indexing features, searching capabilities, and help guides.
SCOPUS
• Scopus is one of the two big commercial, bibliographic databases that cover
scholarly literature from almost any discipline. Beside searching for research
articles, Scopus also provides academic journal rankings, author profiles, and
an h-index calculator.
