Why write?

people, it is a necessity. Along with reading
comprehension, writing is a predictor of
academic success and a basic requirement for
participation in civic and life and a global
economy…Because the definition of literacy
includes both reading and writing skills, poor
writing proficiency should be recognized as part
of this national literacy crisis.”

What is pre-writing?
“The formulation and organization of ideas
preparatory to writing.”(Webster’s
Dictionary)
It is the first step in the writing process
It is a time of exploration and discovery
Its objective is to produce as many ideas as
possible It is a way to manage fear of writing
It is a combination of strategies to help you
organize ideas
Pre-writing Includes:
Thinking about your purpose:
Entertain, inform, persuade, express
Gathering information:
Find facts, talk to people
Choosing a form:
Description: to describe someone or something,
Narrative: to tell a story
Compare & contrast,: tell similarities and differences Expository:
to explain something
Persuasive: to express an opinion
