 Steps to Install VMware Work Station

o Download setup and right click on it and you get:

 Steps to Install Ubuntu on VMware Work
Station
o After opening VMware, by clicking on file and again
clicking on new virtual machine(ctrl + N) you get the
bellow. Click Next.

o Once the installation of Ubuntu is done, you should
click Restart Now.

 Logging into Unix

o Before begging, make sure your pc caps lock key is

off.
o At the login: prompt, enter your user name
(optional).
o At the password: prompt, enter your password.
o for security reasons, your password doesn’t appear
on the screen when you type it.
o After a pause, the Unix shell prompt will appear and
then you can now enter commands at the Unix
prompt.

 Logging out of Unix

o At the Unix prompt, enter:

Exit
o If Unix responds with the message “ there are
stopped jobs “, enter:
fg
Again enter exit or logout.

 Introduction to Unix commands

o All Unix commands always should be entered

in small case letters.
o Between the command name and the options
there must always be a space or a tab.
 Example: ls –l
o Two or more options available with a command
can usually be combined.
 Example : ls –l-a is the same as ls –la
o To cancel the entire command, press DEL key.

 Dear students, to practice this course at lab

we need:
o VMware work station ( Oracle VM virtual box )
o Ubuntu
 Please try to down load and install them on
your(lab) machine.
 Try to open and shutting down it.
 Try to understand Unix command basic rules.
