11 Lecture 11 - Beam - Design - Examples

This document provides an example of designing a simply supported reinforced concrete beam. It involves a step-by-step process to check for flexural and shear capacity, serviceability requirements, and detailing of reinforcement. A rectangular beam with clear span of 7.7m is designed, with M20 concrete and Fe415 steel. The effective span is calculated as 8m. Trial section of 300x550mm is checked against limit states of flexure and shear. Longitudinal reinforcement of 4 #16 bars is determined to satisfy flexural requirements. Minimum shear reinforcement of 2L-#8 stirrups at 300mm c/c is also provided to satisfy shear capacity.
