more knowledgeable & intelligent than me, so I
request such people to be patient and to bear me.
This course is simply an effort to distribute knowledge
and not to introduce any new knowledge.
DAWAH
What is Dawah?
Dawah literally means “making an
invitation” or “to invite”.
In Islamic sense, it simply means “Calling to
Allah”.
Who are we?
 Before we approach further, let us first make our vision clear as to
who we are and why have we been created.
 We are Muslims. Definition of Muslim?
 We are slaves of Allah Almighty and we are created by Allah
Almighty.

“[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you
is best in deed.” (67:2)

This is very important. This is the first step before doing

anything for Islam i-e knowing who we are.
What is our purpose?
Simple and straightforward:

"Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living

and my dying are (all) for Allah, Lord of the worlds."
(6:162)

Can someone please explain what message this ayah is actually

giving? Is it telling that we should not study and do jobs and
we should only stay in masjid and do tasbih all the time?
Some prerequisites before Dawah
 Knowing and having firm belief that Islam is the only perfect and complete and
divine religion.

“Truly it is the religion before Allah.” (3:19)

“The only religion acceptable to Him.” (3:85)

 Acknowledging the grace of Allah Almighty for guiding us to truth and making us
Muslims.

“Allah, by His grace, has guided the believers to the truth.” (2:213)

“They regard as favour upon you (O Muhammad SAW) that they have
embraced Islam. Say: "Count not your Islam as a favour upon me. Nay, but
Allah has conferred a favour upon you, that He has guided you to the Faith,
if you indeed are true. “ (49:17)
Having firm Knowledge about Islam. (Very Important)
Having an intellectual personality. Minding your own
business.
“The beauty of a man’s Islam is his keeping away from
matters which do not concern him.” (hadith)
Knowing the manners of dealing with each other.
Especially when in a group (jamaat).
Class Assignment:
Reading Translation of Surah Hujurat.
This surah is code of conduct of Muslims.
Questions will be asked from this surah Next week.
Why Dawah?
1- “It is the right religion, but most men do not know
it.” (12:40 ; 30:30)
2- Because Islam is the only acceptable lifestyle to
Allah Almighty.
3- To show our gratitude to Allah for guiding us to
Islam.
4- Dawah is to be done purely for the sake of Allah and
to please Him.
Six Reasons
First: To do Da’wah is a divine commandment from Allah.

“Invite (mankind) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the
Divine Inspiration and the Qur‘an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a
way that is better.” (16:125)

Second: Da’wah is the sunnah of all the Messengers and Prophets.

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "This is my way; I invite unto Allah with sure
knowledge, I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allah i.e to
the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism with sure knowledge). Glorified and
Exalted be Allah. And I am not of the Mushrikun." (12:108)
Third: Da’wah as a Sunnah is one of the best ways of serving Allah. Allah
praises such Muslims who invite people to the only way of life, Islam.

“ And who is better in speech than one who calls (men) to Allah,
works righteousness, and says, ‘I am of those who bow in Islam."
(41:33)

"You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you
enjoin Al-Ma'ruf and forbid Al-Munkar, and you believe in Allah.
And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)
believed, it would have been better for them; among them are
some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fasiqun." (3:110)
Fourth: We will be among the successful believers.
Unlimited reward & forgiveness & kaffara of sins.

“They shall have all that they will desire with their
Lord. That is the reward of Muhsinun (good-doers)
So that Allah may remit from them the evil of what
they did and give them the reward, according to
the best of what they used to do.”
(39:34-35)
Some Inspirational Ahadith in this regard:

1- ..”One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of

its doer.” (Sahih Muslim. 4/4465)

2- “If anyone makes a contribution towards Allah’s path, seven

hundred times as much will be recorded to his credit.” (Tirmidhi, 3826)

3- “The superiority of a scholar, who observes the prescribed prayer

and then sits down to teach people goodness over the worshipper who
observes fast during the day and worships during the night, is like my
superiority over the lowest in rank amongst you.”
(Tirmidhi, 250)
Fifth: As much as possible, we, Muslims, should do Da’wah
because it is our religious duty to share the knowledge of Islam
with others.

1- “Convey (my teachings) to the people even if it were a single

sentence.” (Sahih Bukhari)

2- “Acquire the knowledge and impart it to the people..; for I am a

person who has to depart this world.” (Tirmidhi, 279)

3- “He who is asked about knowledge and conceals it will be

bridled on the Day of Judgement with a bridle of fire.”
(Abu Dawud, 3650)
4- Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w) said:
“A man shall be asked concerning five things on the Day of
Resurrection: concerning his life, how he spent it; concerning his
youth, how he grew old; concerning wealth, whence he acquired it
and in what way he spent it; and what was it that he did with the
knowledge he had.”
(Tirmidhi, 5197)

5- “The knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a

treasure out of which nothing is spent in the cause of Allah.”
(Tirmidhi, 280)
Sixth: We must do da’wah because it is our duty to
enjoin what is good and forbid what is wrong and if we
do not do that, what will happen??
An evil and problematic society will come into birth.
“The believers, men and women, are protectors of one
another, they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is
evil.” (9:71)
Some frightening ahadith in this regard:

1- “When people see something objectionable and do

not change it, Allah will soon include them all in His
punishment.” (Tirmidh 5142)

2- “By Him in Whose hands is my life, necessarily you

should enjoin virtue and check evil, or else Allah will
certainly send chastisement upon you. And then you
will pray but your supplications will not be accepted.”
(Tirmidhi, 139)

This marks the end of Part 1 of Today’s lecture.
Since time span of this course is too short, so we will
be covering parts of multiple topics at a time.
Next part is going to be current affairs & general
knowledge and the need for these courses.
CURRENT AFFAIRS & GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
WHY? What has all this got to do with a da’ee?
..and fight against the disbelievers collectively, as
they fight against you collectively.” (9:36)
Before I start and tell the syllabus of what we are going
to cover in this regard, I want to go back and make a
logical connection of current affairs with Islam. I am
going to start from the creation of human beings.
Story of Creation of Adam (AS). Iblees challenging
Allah Almighty.
How it all began?
"And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a
human being out of clay from an altered black mud. And when I have proportioned
him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in
prostration." So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, Except Iblees, he refused
to be with those who prostrated. [Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you
that you are not with those who prostrate?" He said, "Never would I prostrate to a
human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." [Allah] said,
"Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. And indeed, upon you is the curse
until the Day of Recompense." He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day
they are resurrected." [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved. Until the
Day of the time well-known." [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in
error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will
mislead them all. Except, among them, Your chosen servants." [Allah] said, "This is a
path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. Indeed, My servants - no authority will you
have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. And indeed, Hell is
the promised place for them all. (38:28-43)
Story of Adam (AS)
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated,
except Iblees; he refused. So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to
your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer. Indeed, it is
[promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed. And indeed, you will not
be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun." Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O
Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?"
And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and
they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed
his Lord and erred. Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and
guided [him]. [Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being
enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then
whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the
Hereafter]. And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a
depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind." He will say,
"My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?" [Allah] will say,
"Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be
forgotten." (20: 116-126)
The Need for knowing it all
They teach you human beings evolved from monkeys
and they give a complete time line of different ages
through which human beings passed and learnt to
talk, act civilized etc.
So the point in learning all the previous is to know the
Islamic perspective and relate it to whatever is
happening in the world.
These are the times of turmoil and fitna. We will study
this course with special reference to dajjal (anti christ).
