The objective of this course is to understand different


design principles used in the Design of Digital VLSI
Circuits & Systems using nMOS and CMOS with
emphasis on for high performance computing. VLSI
design activity will be understood by Synthesis and
then Analysis at several successive levels of design
abstraction.

Introduction
• Semiconductor industry has witnessed a huge growth after
the invention of the bipolar transistor
• Bipolar transistor was applied to the first IC

• These were replaced by MOS during 1960s

• CMOS has replaced MOS based design

• Moore’s law

• This growth came from miniaturization of transistors
