What is language code?

● They refer to language codes as the means by which individuals communicate a message,
this indicates that language codes are based on some language. They can be either written
or spoken.

● Language systems and units make up a language code. Combinations can be created in
order to elaborate and communicate messages successfully. Nevertheless, these
combinations are subject to particular rules, which vary based on the language.

What determines the choice of code by speakers
of minority language?
● Several factors influence his or her choice of code, including the person with whom
he or she is talking, the social environment of the conversation, and the purpose and
topic of the conversation.

● The interaction between typical people in typical settings, such as family, friendship,
school, and the workplace, is represented by domains of language use.

● In addition to domains, there are dimensions that influence code choice. They are
social distance, status, formality, and functions.

To what extent are political and economic factors
relevant to the choice of code by speakers of minority
language?
● Political, economic, and social developments within speech groups can have an impact on
native languages - a dominant language spoken by the majority can lead to substantial
changes in native minority languages, and in some cases, extinction.

● Portugal, Spain, Britain, and France, among others, were colonial powers in many regions of
the world, and their languages were imposed on the local people by becoming the official
language (administration, law, education, etc.).
