• Is an Island located in
southern Luzon. It is composed
of two provinces: Occidental
Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro.
Tagalog is the main language of
Mindoro. Though some parts and
greatly influence by the native
Visayan and Mangyan languages.

• Ratagnon – a tribe occupying the
southernmost tip of Maindoro
• Alangan – a group that occupies the
northern part of both Oriental and
Occidental Mindoro.
• Iraya – a group of people based in the
upland part of Northwest Mindora.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT
TYPES OF VOCAL MUSIC IN
MINDORO?
• Marayaw – is genre of Iraya-Mangyan used to
communicate with spirit in rituals for healing
the sick and protection the community.
• Pamuybuyen – it means fear of water.
• Ambahan – is one of the indigenous vocal music
of Mindoro. It is rhythmic poetic expression of
seven-syllable lines with rhythmic end-
syllables.
• Ayung or Ngayung – ritual chat.
• Igway – is the word used by the Mangyans for
“song.”
What are the samples of
Intrumental music in
Mindoro?
• Gitgit – a three-string
indigenous violin with human hair
as strings.
• Kudyapi – it is a two-stringed
lute with long neck shaped like a
boat. It has wooden tightening
rods and frets made of beeswax.
