way that does not try to represent the appearance

- noun
- the fact of something continuing for a long
period of time without being changed or stopped

Examples:
1) There has been no continuity in that class -
they've had six different teachers.

- noun
- the fact of making something seem larger, more
important, better, or worse than it really is

Examples:
1) No, she wasn't that fat - what an exaggeration!
2) He claims to be 120 years old, but that is clearly
a wild exaggeration.

Example:

Examples:
1) If the symptoms recur, visit your doctor.
2) If the problem recurred, we'd have to think
again.

- verb
- to officially decide or order that something must

Example:
1) They decreed an end to discrimination on

2) The King decreed that there should be an end
to the fighting.

- noun
- a situation in which something is not likely to

Examples:
1) We all need some stability in our lives.
2) Our country has enjoyed a long period of peace
and stability.

STIFF /stɪf/
- adjective
- not easily bent or moved

- If you are stiff or part of your body is stiff, your
muscles hurt when they are moved.

Examples:
1) The handle on this door is rather stiff.

IN CONTRAST / (in contrast to/with sth)
- used when you are comparing two things or
people and saying that the second one is very
different from the first
Examples:
1) In contrast to his predecessor, Bush has little
appetite for foreign travel.
2) In contrast with last year's profits, the company
is not doing very well.
3) Poor girls on the street are always in danger. In
contrast, the lives of girls in well-to-do families are
often very sheltered.

- if someone is about to do something, or if
something is about to happen, they will do it or it
will happen very soon
Examples:
1) We were about to leave when Jerry arrived.
2) Work was about to start on a new factory
building.

- in order to help, improve, or please someone
or something
Examples:
1) I'm trying to keep life normal for the sake of
my two boys.
2) He moved to the seaside for the sake of his
health.
