SPEAKING PART 1 What happens in IELTS Speaking Part 1 Academic Test 4-5 minutes Introduction + two topics (around 10-12 questions) Topics: work, study, sport, hobbies, food, family,
Pronunciation, Fluency, Vocabulary, Grammar
DOS Confident, friendly, eye-contact Excitement Vocabulary - Not repeating the same word Be careful with the collocation : interested in (not with)… I think…. I feel that… In my opinion,… I tend to think that… I like x . I enjoy... , I really love... , I prefer..., Expand your answers – supports (explanation or example) Practice DON’TS Speak quietly.. Do not lack of enthusiasm Give yes/no answers only Repeat the question Speak other than is asked Answer: I don’t know... Speak too quickly, slowly Worry about perfect English. Let’s talk about your home town or village. • What kind of place is it? • What’s the most interesting part of your town/village? • What kind of jobs do the people in your town/village do? • Would you say it’s a good place to live? Why not? Have you learnt a lot from the university? Where are you from? Are you from an area near your university? Let’s talk about your home town or village: what sort of place is it? what’s the most interesting part of your town/village? what kind of jobs do the people in your town/village do? would you say it’s a good place to live? (why?) Let’s move on to talk about accommodation: tell me about the kind of accommodation you live in? how long have you lived there? what do you like about living in your town/city? what sort of accommodation would you most like to live in?
