How Computer Process Data

The document discusses the four main stages of how a computer processes data: 1) Input - Data or instructions are entered into the computer's memory through input devices. 2) Storage - Data, instructions, and information are held for future use on storage media like hard disks. 3) Processing - The CPU converts input into output by performing operations to add value according to instructions. 4) Output - Processed data is conveyed to the user in an understandable format through output devices.

Four stages in processing data

INPUT STORAGE PROCESS OUTPUT

2
WHAT IS inPUT?
* INPUT is any data or instructions
entered into the memory of a
computer. An input device is any
hardware component that allows a
user to enter data and instructions
into a computer

3
Store/storage
What is storage?
 Holds data, Instructions, and information for future use.
 Storage medium is physical material used for storage .
 Also called secondary storage

Outcome

INPUT PROCESS OUTPUT

A process is an activity, or series of activities that

Convert an Input, to an Output, by doing work.
Processes only exist to add value, achieve outcomes
and meet the requirement of customers(and
stakeholders)

5
OUTPUT
What is the Output?
 Data that has been processed into a useful Form
 Output Device is any hardware component that can convey
Information to user

• The computers process the data
through CPU
What is CPU?
A central processing unit, also called a central processor, main
processer, brain of computer or just processor, is the electronic
circuitry within a computer that executes instructions that make up a
computer program.

7
✣ A computer uses a central processing Unit or CPU to
do all its decision-making and data processing. The
CPU has an internal set of instruction it follows
when it receives a command. Programmers use
different languages to give the CPU commands
….The CPU follows the programmer’s logic to
process the data given it.

8
✣ Before data is processed by a computer, it has to be
fed into the computer using a keyboard, mouse or
other input device. The central processing unit (CPU)
analyzes the raw data and processes it into sensible
information. The CPU receives instruction from the
user and issues prompts accordingly . After the data
is processed, it is translated to output formats that are
easily understandable by the user.
