Writing Numbers

Numbers can be written in symbols and in words. Numbers

written in symbols are in standard form. Numbers written in
words are in word form.
Numbers can be written in standard form using the symbols
from 0 to 9 and their combination. And in word form using
words. Some situations may require you to write numbers in
word form like writing the amount in bank checks. So, it is
important to learn the correct spelling of number words to avoid
confusion.

nine

TEENS
ten
eleven
twelve
thirteen Have you noticed something? Except from 10, 11 and
fourteen 12, all the numbers have the suffix “teen”. Like the
fifteen number seventeen. These digits are written in tens
sixteen place value. They are a combination of tens and ones
seventeen place values so, you cannot write them beside
eighteen another digit in tens place or ones place value.
nineteen
TENS
twenty
thirty
forty
fifty
sixty You can recognize them because they
seventy end in “ty”. As in the number forty. We
eighty write them in tens place value.
ninety

HUNDREDS
one hundred
two hundred
three hundred
four hundred This one is easy. You can just look at the
five hundred “ones”. Just add the word hundred after
six hundred them. Example: nine hundred. As the name
seven hundred suggests, they are written in the hundreds
eight hundred
nine hundred
place value.

Four Example:
hundred 4thirty
3 t2wo
Example: 432

Four hundred thirty-two

Five Example: 514
hundredfourteen
Example: 514

Five hundred fourteen

Don’t mind me,
I’m always missing.
