WORK EXPERIENCEN GAIN
NETWORKING: is the practice of transporting and exchanging data
Between nodes over a shared medium in an information technology.

 Network are component involve in connecting computer and application

across small and large distance.

Each computer on the network has access to the files and peripheral device
(such as printers or modems) on all the other computers on the network.
Networking cables
Network cables are networking hardware used to connect devices or to connect two or more computers to share printers, scanners e.t.c…Electrical connections using twisted pair or coaxial cable are use within the building.

The explanation of twisted pair cable and coaxial cable

Twisted pair cable comprises of two separate insulated copper wire, which are twisted together and run in parallel. The copper wires are typically 1mm in diameter one of the wire is used to transmit data and other is the ground
reference. The twisted pair cable are also called (cat 6) and there color code are, orange white, orange, green white, blue, blue white, green, brown white, brown.
How to connect twisted pair cable

 The main method to put connectors on twisted pair cable is crimping. You could
have a cable crimping tools to push the metal contacts inside the connector onto the
individual conductors in the cables, thus making the connection.
 Use of twisted pair cable
Twisted pair cable is a type of cabling that used for telephone communications and
most modern Ethernet network.

Coaxial cable

 Coaxial cable is a type of electrical cable consisting of an inner conductor

surrounded by a concentric conducting shield, with the two separate by a dielectric.
 Coaxial cable is a type of cable used to transmit data, the internet, video and voice
communications.
How to connect a coaxial cable
 1)Slide the crimp ring over the cable

 2)Push the connector over the cable so the copper conductor sticks out

 3)Crimp the connector and the wire

 4)Trim away any wire mesh coming out from under the connector.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED DURING THE PROGRAM

The following tool are some of the tools used on site, during the networking of the
school environmental technology.

Crimping tools used to crimp twisted pair cable into RJ45

Punch down tools used in punching cables down on the patch panel and modules
respectively

Register jack 45(RJ45) used in connecting LAN

 Ladder used to climbing

 Hammer for driving in nail

 Trunk houses the cables & Shielded twisted pair cables

 Screwdriver & LAN tester

 Blowing machine used in blowing dust away from system unit worked upon

 Crimping tools & RI45 Unshielded twisted pair

COMPONENTS OF THE LAN NETWORK•
Router:
A router is a device or a computer that is used to connect two or more
networks together. Routers are physical devices that join multiple wired
or wireless networks together.
Technically, a wired or wireless router is a Layer 3 gateway, meaning
that the wired/wireless router connects networks (as gateways do), and
that the router operates at the network layer of the OSI model. A router
can also be called a computer because it has a LAN-port, an operating
system.

SWITCH
The main switch is a switch that is used to distribute the network connection
to different buildings.
A switch is a device that is used to link systems or workstations together.
A switch is mainly used in a star topology.

NETWORK TOPOLOGY
Network topology refers to the layout of the transmission medium
and devices on a network.
Common topology found in networking includes :
mesh topology, star topology, bus topology,
ring topology, and others
 Star Topology: this is a network topology where each
individual piece of network is attached to a central node
(often called a hub or switch).

Star Topology
 Bus Topology: bus topology is actually a series of cable
segments running from one node to the other.

Bus Topology
 TROUBLESHOOTING SKILLS
 Troubleshooting is the process of finding problems and solving them.
 Should a client unable to browse or unable to make calls via the IP
phone, the check begins with the cable being used if client is
connected via LAN cable, this is done using the LAN-cable tester,
check the face plates to know if it is working, check the patched
panel and switches on the distribution rack where they are kept. Ping
the systems Ethernet port, ping the server etc.
RECOMMENDATION
 Government should endeavor to improve their business
relationship specifically in funding of companies that have
SIWES students as a way of adding importance to the
scheme in reality.
 Students should learn to comport themselves well in these
companies so as not to send a bad signal which may
discourage such company from taking or accepting future
SIWES students and ensure that their six months of SIWES
should be strictly adhered to because there is really much
to learn.
 Companies should show more commitment to the training
of students so as to improve the quality of training given
CONCLUSION
 My training here has given me a broader view to the
importance and relevance of Information And Communication
Technology (Ict) in the immediate society and in the whole
world, as I now look forward to impacting it positively after
graduation.
 I have also been able to improve my communication and
presentation skills and thereby develop good relationship with
my fellow colleagues at work.
 I have also been able to appreciate the connection between
my course of study and other disciplines in producing a
successful result.
