OF INDIA
GROUP PROJECT – GROUP 1
NORTH-EASTERN STATES
MANIPUR
Manipur is a state in north-eastern India with
the city of Imphal as it’s capital. It is bounded by
the Indian States of Nagaland to the north,
Mizoram to the south and Assam to the west
.The state covers 22,327 square kilometres and
has a population who speak a variety of Sino—
Tibetan languages. Manipur has plenty of places
to visit - it contains 134 tourist spots. Manipur is
also a traditionally, culturally and ethnically
diverse state and is also famous for its natural
beauty.
MANIPUR
Food is everyone’s favourite thing also when it comes to
Manipur. Manipur is famous for its delicious Chamthong
and Kangshoi – a very healthy vegetable stew. This is very
popular and one of the main reasons culinary attractions
of Manipur. The state is full of ancient traditions and rich
cultural heritage which is best represented by the folk
dance forms. Manipur has a diverse nature sceneries and
a beautiful Zoological garden which was established in
2nd October 1976. It contains 400 rare species of animals
and birds. The most famous spot is Loktak lake which is
one of the largest freshwater lakes in the whole world. It
is also know as the “floating lake” because it supports
numerous phumdis or masses of vegetation. The lake is
found in the district of Moirang.
SIKKIM
Sikkim, is located in the north-eastern
part of the country, in the
eastern Himalayas. It is one of the
smallest states in India. Sikkim is
bordered by
the Tibet Autonomous Region
of China to the north and northeast,
by Bhutan to the southeast, by the
Indian state of West Bengal to the
south, and by Nepal to the west. The
capital is Gangtok, in the south-
eastern part of the state. The People
of Sikkim consist of three ethnic
groups, that
is, Lepcha, Bhutia and Nepali.
Communities of different hues
intermingle freely in Sikkim to
constitute a homogenous blend. Hindu
Temples coexist with Buddhist
Monasteries, Churches, Mosque and
Gurudwara
SIKKIM
Nature has been particularly generous
in her gift of sylvan treasures to the
state of Sikkim. Luxuriant forest,
abound in all part of state and variety
of medicinal plants, herbs, shrubs,
bamboos and trees growing in state is
truly rich. In the forest, there are a
number of plants whose medicinal
values have been well recognized by
local people as well as by different
pharmaceutical, insecticidal and
perfumery sectors. The local
inhabitants for treatment of various
ailments use numerous herbal
remedies. Furthermore, modern
medicines owes to the flora of these
mountains. Many inhabitants for
treatment of various ailments use

species of Himalayan origin have
revolutionized the allopathic systems
of medicine.
MIZORAM
Mizoram is a state in north eastern India,
with Aizawl as capital city. . The name of
the state is derived from “Mizo", the self
described name of the native inhabitants,
and "Ram", which in the Mizo language
means "land”. The songbird of the
northeast, Mizoram is an adorning state
glamoured with scenic spots and vibrant
cultural entity. Based mainly on the tribal
communities inhabiting this alluring state
referred to as the Mizos, the cultural
boundary of Mizoram is reflective in its
own way. Known as the land of diverse
tribes and races of people living together,
the different tribes and communities here
have unique features of their own.
MIZORAM
The culture of the Mizos is intrinsically woven
with their practice of Jhuming cultivation. In
fact, important festival are associated with
the various stags of their shifting cultivation.
In Mizo, we found 3 main festival called ‘Kut’
such as Chapchar kut, Mim kut and Pawl kut.
The Mizos are also reputed for their love of
music and songs. Music is a passion for the
mizo. Many folk-cores, tales and songs were
passed down by words of mouth generations
after generations. There are numerous
dances viz, Cheraw, chheih lam, khual, etc.
Mizoram is a place with flora and fauna rich
landscape and pleasant climate. Surrounded
by Manipur, Assam, Myanmar and
Bangladesh, a drive through the centre of the
state, towards the Myanmar border will take
you through lush green paddy fields. This
geographical diversity makes it one of the
most beautiful places to visit in the north
east corner of India.
TRIPURA
Tripura is located in the northeastern part of the
Indian subcontinent. It is bordered to the north,
west, and south by Bangladesh, to the east by the
state of Mizoram, and to the northeast by the state
of Assam. The capital is Agartala, near the
Bangladesh border in the northwestern part of the
state. There are community-specific festivals in
Tripura observed with the related rituals and
festivities. The Mog Community observes the Lamp
Festival from the full Moon of Ashad to the full Moon
of Ashwin. The Ashokastami, Garia, and Gajan
festivals are celebrated in April. Moreover, there are
the Rabindra and Nazrul Jayanti, Boat Race festival,
Durga Puja, Diwali, Ras, Poush Sankranti Mela and
Orange and Tourism Festival that are celebrated
throughout the state with great fervor.
TRIPURA
The large Bengali community in Tripura makes for
a non-veg cuisine, with fish being an integral part
of the menu. Their main courses are prepared
using meat and vegetables. Mui Borok is the
traditional food of Tripura. Tripuri cuisines are
prepared using Berma (dried and fermented fish)
a key ingredient. Bangui rice and fish stews, meat
roasts, local herbs along with bamboo shoots and
fermented fish are very popular. The state is
dominated by the Bengalis and so the prevalent
culture is also Bengali. The culture as a whole is a
blend of various ethno-linguistic groups such as,
Tripuris, Jamatia, Reang, Noatia and Uchoi. The
Bengali literature, Music and cuisine are also
taken up by the people of Tripura.
NAGALAND
Nagaland is a state in north-eastern India. It
is bordered by the state of Arunachal
Pradesh to the north, Assam to the west,
Manipur to the south and the Sagaing
Region of Myanmar to the east. Nagaland's
capital city is Kohima and its largest city is
Dimapur. It has an area of 16,579 square
kilometres with a population of 1,980,602
per the 2011 Census of India, making it one
of the smallest states of India. Nagaland
became the 16th state of India on 1
December 1963. 
NAGALAND
Nagaland exquisitely rich in flora and fauna
and is a habitat to some of the dandiest
plants and animals, not leaving behind the
beautiful birds to which this place is home.
Owing to its diversity in birds, Nagaland is
referred to as, The Falcon Capital of The
World. Nagaland supports a flamboyant
tribal culture which leaves anybody visiting
the place amazed and dazzled. Agriculture is
the most important economic activity,
covering over 70%of the state's economy.
Other significant economic activities include
forestry, tourism, insurance, real estate, and
miscellaneous cottage industries.
MEGHALAYA
Meghalaya, located in the north-eastern
part of the country is bounded by the
Indian state of Assam to the north and
northeast and by Bangladesh to the south
and southwest. The state capital is the hill
town of Shillong, located in east-central
Meghalaya. Mawlynnong in Meghalaya is
the cleanest village in India. Meghalaya is
the only Indian state that follows a
matrilineal system, where lineage and
inheritance is traced through women.
Mawsynram in Meghalaya holds the record
for receiving highest rainfall recorded.
Average annual rainfall is recorded to be
11,871 mm.
MEGHALAYA
The state of Meghalaya is well known for
various crafts. Handicrafts made with cane
and bamboo products, textile weaving,
carpet weaving, ornament making and
woodcarving also hold important place in
Meghalaya's art and crafts. Meghalaya
cuisine comprises rice and vegetable
curries or fish and meat. Meghalaya is
popular for its momos, bamboo shots and
Jodoh. The rugged terrain of Meghalaya, a
mix of high elevations and deep valleys,
coupled with the rich bounty of rain and
resultant vegetation, has made it a haven
for wildlife species. The rare and highly
endangered Clouded Leopard is the State
Animal. 
Noted as one of the most attractive places in India,
gorgeous northeast India has so much to offer to its
visitors. The beautiful north-eastern states of India
has the highest biodiversity that attracts many local
and foreign visitors every year. Sikkim, along with the
seven sisters states of northeast India is blessed with
CONCLUSIO magnificent mountains and hills, spectacular rivers,
stunning waterfalls and myriad natural attractions
N that are to be explored. Tourism in this area is based
around the unique Himalayan landscape and culture
distinct from the rest of India. Each state has its own
charm, culture and traditions. You’re in for a surprise
no matter where you visit. So we hope someday you
