What is Science
Laboratory?
SCIENCE LABORATORY
-is meant for conducting scientific studies and
explorations. Based on the level of study and the
field of specialization, it may be equipped with
hazardous chemicals, radioactive and flammable
substances, live and dead specimens, sharp
instruments, and glassware.

LABORATORY SAFETY PROCEDURES
1. Always follow the instructions or procedure given by the
teacher.
2. Wear safety goggles, gloves, aprons, and other protective
gear as required.
3. Always keep the working area clean and dry at all times.

4. Know the locations of the nearest available safety


equipment, such as the First aid kit, fire extinguisher, eye
wash, and fire alarms.

5. Immediately inform the teacher or the laboratory technician
if any injury or accident happens.
6. Inspect all equipment for damage, such as cracks or
defects, prior to use.
7. All chemicals in the laboratory are considered dangerous.
Never touch, smell, or taste any chemical unless you have
been instructed to do so.

8. Check the labels on the bottles of the chemicals twice
before removing or using the contents.
9. Dispose of all chemical wastes properly. Never pour waste
into the sink unless instructed by your teacher.

10. Wash your hands with soap and water after performing an
experiment.
11. Never return unused chemicals back to their original
containers.

12. Never dispense flammable liquids anywhere near an open
flame or source of heat.
13. Do not immerse hot glassware in cold water or it could
crack.
14. Turn of the gas at the gas outlet valve after using the
Bunsen burner.
15. Use tongs or gloves when holding or touching heated
apparatus such as glassware or crucible.

16. Never leave anything that is being heated or is visibly
reacting unattended.
17. Keep your hands away from your eyes, mouth, and body
while using chemicals.
18. Never carry bottles or glassware that are wet or too heavy
for you.
