geometry.
• Is the science of graphic representation and solution

Solids and Surfaces.

• Polyhedrons:- are multisided solids whose faces


consist of intersecting plane surfaces.

• These solids are classified as Regular or Irregular


polyhedrons.

• Regular polyhedrons:- faces of solids are


congruent.

• Irregular polyhedrons:- faces of solids are not


congruent.

SURFACES
Solids and Surfaces.

• Surfaces:- Geometrical surfaces are generated


or formed by straight or curved lines which
moves through space in a prescribed manner.

• These surfaces are divided in to two basic


groups.

1. Ruled Surfaces:- generated by a straight lines

2. Double-Curved surfaces:- generated by a


curved line

1. Ruled Surfaces:- there are three types of


ruled surfaces.
A. Plane surfaces:- Generated by a straight
line moving along two parallel lines or two
intersecting lines.

B. Single- curved surfaces [two methods of generation]:-


i. Generated by a straight line which moves
along a curved line

• Each successive position, of the straight line, is parallel to its previous


position.

ii. Generated by a straight line which is fixed at one


end while the free end moves along a curved line.

C. Warped Surfaces:- Generated by a straight line


which moves along a two skew lines and remains
parallel to a given plane.

2. Double-curved surfaces:- are formed by revolving


the plane of a curved line about an axis

• Surfaces of Revolution:- are formed by rotating a


line [ straight or curved] about an axis

• Surfaces formed are single-curved surfaces.


• Many double-curved surfaces are surface of
revolution.
