What Is Domain Controler

A domain controller (DC) is a server that authenticates users on a Windows domain network. It contains Active Directory (AD), which manages users, computers, groups and other objects, and Group Policy (GP), which sets configuration policies for those objects. Multiple redundant DCs maintain the same AD database for fault tolerance. DCs respond to authentication requests and apply GPs across client PCs on the domain.
