SIMPLE SENTENCES
▰ A simple sentence contains one
independent clause. An independent
clause has a subject, which is followed by
a verb or a verb phrase. Either subject or
predicate can be simple or compound.

COMPOUND SENTENCES
▰ A compound sentence has two
independent clauses joined by a comma
and a coordinating conjunction
(FANBOYS). Each independent clause
could be a sentence by itself, but both are
always connected using a conjunction.

delight mom but I think otherwise.

harvest.

Independent clauses can also be connected by a

▰ We went home sad from a failed math test; it was
okay for mom.
▰ She ran to the school; the school was closed.
▰ She got the materials; they were all a waste.
▰ It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.
