What is a adjective?
Adjectives are words that use to give further
describe for a noun or a pronoun.
Examples: They live in a big house.
He is wearing a sleeveless shirt today.
She likes a Chinese dish.
Our school has fourty computers.
My sister has a beautiful doll.

 Pure – we can’t make a noun or a verb by using pure


adjectives.
 Derived – derived adjectives are made by changing a noun
or a verb. (beauty-beautiful / care-careless)

Attributive adjectives
Attributive adjectives are adjectives that
placed before a noun and describe it.
Examples:
• A new expensive car.
• A plastic water bottle.
• A nice modern computer.
• She has a cute puppy.
• He was carrying two big cardboard boxes.
Predicative adjectives
Predicative adjectives are comes after a
be verb or a linking verb.
Examples:
• That car is new and expensive.
• Children grow older everyday.
• Her dress looks beautiful.
Order of adjectives
NOpSACOMP
N – Number (one, two, three, …. , a lot of)
Op – Opinion (good, bad, nice, ….)
S - Size / Shape (big, oval, small, tiny, round, ….)
A - Age related (old, new, ancient, ….)
C- Colour (black, white, blue, …)
O - Origin (Sri Lankan, American, British, ….)
M – Material (plastic, wooden, glass,…)
P – Purpose (wedding saree, running shoes, …)
She has a beautiful, medium sized, new, black, leather, school bag.
Comparison of adjectives
There are three degrees of adjectives.
1. Positive degree(without any comparison)
2. Comparative degree(comparison
between two people or things)
3. Superlative degree(comparison among
three or more people and things)
