COMPUTER MAINTENANCE

Several factors affect howe a computer devices or program respond to a


users command. Poor performance of a computer could have different probable
causes like a work area are not being properly ventilated or an unwanted
program was able to enter the computer system.
GENERAL GUIDELINES IN CLEANING A
PERSONAL COMPUTER
1. Shutdown and unplug the computer before cleaning it.
2. Wear an antistatic wristband and use an antistatic mat in opening the case and
touching the parts.
3. Organize the cleaning tools and materials that are needed.
4. Make sure to clean the computer on top of an empty table or desk and not directly on
the floor.
5. Do not spray liquid directly to the computer unit and its component.
6. When cleaning the motherboard of the computer, do not disconnect the cables

MATERIALS

Cloth – use a clean free cloth in wiping the


external parts of surface of the computer, its
components, and peripherals.
Water rubbing alcohol – used to removed
sticky elements and dirt on surface of the
computer.
Brush – if wiping is not possible, use a brush
with soft and long bristles in cleaning the
parts.

Cotton swabs – cotton swabs are best used in


hard to reach and sensitive parts that need
thorough cleaning.
Compressed air – use this to dust off and
remove grime in between parts that cloth
cannot reach such as keyboard and internal
parts

1. Turn off the computer unit and unplug it.
2. Wipe the monitor gently with moistened cloth
until dust and dirt is gone.
3. Do not press down or use excessive strength
when wiping the monitor
4. Let it dry before plugging and turning it on.

1. Gently wipe the casing with a slightly damped
cloth.
2. You may spray compressed or canned air to
clean through hard holes and vents that cloth
cannot reach.

1. Unplug the computer
2. In cleaning the motherboard, avoid detaching
the wires and cables that are attached to the
different components unless you want a though
cleaning
3. Used canned compressed air
4. Spray compressed air in an upright position to
avoid direct leak of chemical to the surface that
may affect and damage the motherboard.

1. Gently detach the memory stick form its slot
2. Use a lint-free cloth with a small amount of
rubbing alcohol and gently rub the gold
contacts.
3. Let it dry and attach it back to its slot.

 CPU FAN and HEAT SINK
1. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws that holding the CPU fan
2. Disconnect the cable from the motherboard and lift the fan from the
heat sink
3. Once the CPU fan is removed, the heat sink will be exposed
4. Using a brush with long bristle, remove the dust from the top ,side,
sand between parts of the sink heat.
5. When dust is removed, spray compressed air to the heat sink.
6. Wipe the fan with a damped cloth or spray it with a compressed air
and let it dry before attaching it back to the heat sink.

 KEYBOARD
1. Disconnect the cable of the keyboard from
the computer
2. Turn the keyboard upside down and gently
shake it downwards to remove dirt and other
particles.
3. Spray compressed air in between the keys
and wipe the top of the keys with a clean
cloth moistened with water or rubbing
alcohol.

1. Disconnect the mouse from the USB
port
2. Wipe the top and bottom gently with
cloth or tissue paper damped in water or
rubbing alcohol

all of their devices. Their offered 5
(gigabytes) free to 2 (terabytes) for a
monthly fee.
2. Google Drive – is accessible to anyone
with a Google account and offer 15 GB of
free storage
3. Dropbox – offers a variety of deals for
their users depending on their needs. They
provide 2 GB of free storage and 2TB for
Dropbox Plus for a monthly fee

 BACKING UP FILES (Operating System)


1. Time Machine – is a feature from the operating
system of MAC, the macOS. It allows automatic
backup of all the user’s file.
2. Backup and Restore – is a feature of the Windows 7
that protects its user from permanent data loss.
3. File History – is a Windows 10 feature that allow
users to back up their data to an external drive or
network location of their choice.
