Chapter 8: Do Dice Play God?

The document discusses concepts related to determinism, probability, laws of motion, and quantum mechanics. It provides examples to illustrate key ideas such as: - Determinism is the proposition that events are causally determined by prior occurrences. This is compared to the clockwork universe view of a perfectly predictable machine. - Probability is expressed as a ratio of favorable to total outcomes and is illustrated with examples of lotto odds and rolling dice. - Laws of motion include Newton's first law of inertia and equal reaction, and his second law relating force, mass and acceleration. - Quantum mechanics applies to very small scales and results in strange conclusions about the physical world, exemplified by GPS relying on atomic clocks using quantum physics

Chapter 8: Do Dice Play

God?
Determine:
Because of the world has
variable called Chaos which
makes circumstances
unpredictable
Because of CHAOS it makes a
circumstances change

Sometimes life of Humanity not

predictable.
Determinism Theory
Is the philosophical proposition that
every event, including human
cognition and behavior, moral
choice, and action is casually.
Determine by the unbroken chain of
prior occurrences.
EXAMPLE
Example
Clockwork Universe
It compares the universe to the mechanical clock. It
continues tickling along, as perfect machine, with
gears governed by law of physics, making every
aspect of machine is predictable.
Probability
Chance or likehood that an event will happen
Is a number of ways of achieving success

Formula

Probability = Favorable outcomes

Total outcomes

I------------------------------------------------------------I
0

1

Example:
Lotto
There is a chance of loss. There
is also a chance of winning

In 6/45 lotto, there are

8,145,060
Possible combinations
And the probability of winning
is
0.000012277%
Example :
A die is rolled, find
the probability that
an even number is
obtained.
P(even)= __3__ =
6

1,2,3,4,5,6

Law of
Motion
First Law of Motion

• States “A body at
rest will remain
at rest, and a
body in motion
will remain in
motion unless it
is acted upon
external forces.
Example:
Second Law of
Motion
• It states , “The force acting on the object
is equal to the mass of the object times
and acceleration

Formula
F=ma
F= Force
m= Mass
a= Acceleration
• When we kick a ball, we exert the force in a specific
direction, which is the direction in which it will travel. In
Example: addition the stronger that ball kicked, the stronger the
force we put on it and the further away it go.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
Example:

When you jump,

your legs apply force
to the ground, and
the ground applies
and equal and
opposite reaction
force that propels
you into the air.
Quantum Mechanics
• Is the branch of physics
relating to the very small.
It results in what may
appear to be some very
strange conclusions about
physical world.
Example:

Navigating to unknown locations has never been easier as it has been

with the help of quantum physics. While using a mobile phone for
navigation, the GPS receiver in mobile phone is responsible for picking
up the signal from multiple clocks
The distance and time between
your current location and
destination are calculated by
calculating different arrival times
from different satellites.
Moreover, even the distance
from your current location from
each satellite is also calculated.
Each satellite is equipped with
an atomic, which relies on
quantum physics only.
