1. Read the content of a text.
2. Find the information and identify
the claim(s) of the writer.
3. Know about the 4 properties of a
well-written text , so that you
would know what to look for in a
text in evaluating it.
4. Express your judgment of the
text. State if you liked the text and
what you liked about how it was
written.
5. Always quote parts of the text
to support your assertions
about it. When quoting, do not forget
to use quotation marks and cite the
page if it is from a book or article.
An Excerpt of Emma’s Watson’s Speech on
Gender Equality at the UN
"I was appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women 6
months ago. The more I spoke about feminism, the more I
realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often
become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I
know for certain is that this has to stop. For the record,
feminism by definition is the belief that men and women
should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of
political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.

When I was 8, I was called bossy because I wanted to direct a play
we would put on for our parents. When at 14, I started to be
sexualized by certain elements of the media. At 15, my girlfriends
started dropping out of sports teams because they didn’t want to
appear masculine. At 18, my male friends were unable to express

I decided that I was a feminist. This seemed uncomplicated to me.
But my recent research has shown me that feminism has become an
unpopular word. Women are choosing not to identify as feminists.

Men, I would like to give this opportunity to extend your formal
invitation. Gender equality is your issue, too. Because to date, I’ve seen

men between 20 to 49, eclipsing road accidents, cancer, and heart

reader.
It also shows competence and
familiarity with the topic.
 It can also show that you are willing
to accept other viewpoints.
 Example
One of the ways in which ordinary people can
prevent gingivitis is by gargling twice daily with
a dentist-approved mouthwash. However, in a
recent survey of American dentists, some
questioned the use of mouthwash as a tactic to
prevent gingivitis.
A number of legislators have already signified their
intent to file an impeachment complaint against
President Rodrigo Duterte. They want the president to
vacate his position the soonest time possible. These
people do not understand that impeaching a president
entails a lot of process. They have to provide evidence
beyond reasonable doubt that the president is indeed
impeachable. Why oust a president during the early
stages of his presidency?
Mindanao has been put under martial law
following the war in Marawi. This is a wrong
move by the government. Martial law should
not have been implemented.

President Duterte Approves the Mandatory ROTC in Senior High School
Students

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — President Rodrigo Duterte approved the
restoration of the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) for Grades 11 and 12 in
public and private schools nationwide.
 
In a Facebook post, Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the President
approved the mandatory ROTC after thorough discussion with members of the
Cabinet on Tuesday.
 
He said the proposal "will now be forwarded to Congress and Senate and certified
as urgent by President Duterte."
  
Piñol said Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana presented an amendment for
Republic Act 7077 or the "Citizen Armed Forces of the Philippines Reservist
Act” to make ROTC mandatory.

The Agriculture Secretary also quoted Lorenzana, saying that "ROTC instills
patriotism, love of country, moral and spiritual values, respect for human
rights and adherence to Constitution."
 
Piñol said the Anti-Hazing Law will be strictly implemented to "avoid hazing
deaths" and will be one of the measures to safeguard the mandatory ROTC.
 
The implementation of mandatory ROTC stopped in 2001 when University of
Santo Tomas student and ROTC member Mark Welson Chua was found dead
after exposing the alleged corruption in his unit
