Ako ang nasisisi
Ako ang laging may kasalanan”
 Teenager life is the most interesting stage in
the life of every person. It is the period of
rapid growth and development in all aspects
of life.

 Teenage life is also associated with puberty.

 Puberty means a stage in an adolescent’s life

when he or she is capable of sexual
reproduction.

 It is the time of his or her life that secondary

sexual characteristics become prominent.

time, this period simply explains the popular cliché that the teenager is no
longer a child but too eager in be an adult.
 This eagerness, coupled with the prominent changes in the body, the
adolescent has to go thru various developmental tasks in order to become
productive, mature and understand himself better.
“Developmental Tasks”
1. Heterosexuality and Friendship
 Teenagers at this stage become conscious of
their personal appearance. They become a
little insecure of their changes hence they
wanted to be identified with a peer or group
that would accept them as they are and
recognize them as well.
 They also become attracted with the opposite

to choose the right kind of friends who will

support and help them grow.
2. Acceptance of Masculine and
Feminine Roles
 Many years ago, women are expected to just take
feminine roles like being a wife, decision maker and
provider for the family.
 Today, with both men and women pursuing a college
course and more women are helping in the financial
concerns of the family, men learn to do feminine work
like cooking, laundering, ironing clothes etc.
 With the rise of single parenthood, women learn to do
masculine work like doing simple house repairs, simple
electrical jobs etc.
 This is the most practical way of becoming a mature
individual- to learn to do multitasking or doing more
than one thing at a time.
3. Appreciation for one’s physique
 Not all teenagers grow at the same rate or pace. Some grow
taller than others while other have better skin texture and
better body built.
 There are many factors that contribute to the rate of
physical changes. Among them are heredity, environment
and the food we eat.
 A good looking body built is always an asset to a teenager.
While a good physique or body built is something to be
proud of, this should not be the cause of lack of self-
confidence or inferiority complex.
 Teenagers should learn to accept that his total development
will come in sooner or later. The best thing that a teenager
could do at that moment is to thank God for his body and to
focus on positive activities that will help in the development
of his body like sports, good eating and sleeping habits.
4. Choice of an Economic Career
 As early as this stage in an adolescent’s life, he
or she should plan and think of how he could
earn a living for his future.
 Choosing a college course or career that matches

his skill, abilities and interest will help him

become successful.
 With today’s economic crisis, it is wise help of the

of the guidance counselor of the school who will

determine the skills and potentials of a teenager.
 He should know how to pray and seek guidance

from the Divine Almighty to help him choose the

right answer.
5. Freedom from Parental Control
 Teenagers long for privacy and try to do things on
their own. Parents sometimes have a hard time trying
to “loosen” parental control over their children.
 Teenagers however feel a sense of achievement if they

do things on their own.

 During this stage, it is best for family if parents try to

give a little freedom to their teenaged children so they

could practice a little independence, however, there
should always be some restrictions so teenagers could
prove themselves worthy of this freedom.
 Teenagers should always prove to parents that they

are really trustworthy. They could start by studying

well and helping around the house.
 The adolescent period is not only of rapid
physical growth but also a period of
simultaneous growth. As a teenager’s
physical growth is developed, so does his
emotional and mental state. Hormonal
change and imbalance contribute a lot to the
change in behavior of most teenagers.
 It is every important that teenagers

understand the behavior traits so they could

have a better understanding of themselves
and other teenagers. However, teenagers
should learn to deal and look at them in a
positive way in order to become better
persons.
1. Adolescent are jolly persons, however, they often
exhibit different mood swings.
2. Though they show signs of being persistent,
independent and self reliant, they could be
impatient and are afraid of comments for fear of
being criticized or rejected.
3. Adolescents long for independence but once they
are given a little freedom, they still seek the
opinions of parents and long for their approval.
4. Teenagers are often inquisitive and often ask
questions.
5. Teenagers have strong attraction with the opposite
sex and are more aware of boy-girl relationship.
6. Adolescents become more self-centered showing
more concern for himself.

individual. They are the bases of one’s
direction in life and the foundation of one’s
philosophy in life. It is of prime importance
that the teenager from a good set of personal
values because it will tell the kind of person
he is.

 Values are caught and not taught. This is a

popular adage. It means that these are
learned from the people we come in contract
with like in the home and school.
1. Love- This is the greatest value of all.
2. Honest- This means being truthful not only to others
but especially to himself.
3. Diligence- This refers to the proper and positive
attitude towards work.
4. Commitment to Family- An adolescent should treasure
the family.
5. Respect for Elders and People in Authority- Because
elders (parents and older relatives) are more experience
than teenagers, they have wider and wiser experiences
than teenagers.
6. Spirituality- Filipinos are noted to be prayerful.

laden with values that are proven to be beneficial to all
and are applicable to all generations.
8. Avoidance of Materialism- Teenagers are fond of
