RAM- Random Access Memory
• RAM is generally known as a main
memory of the computer system.
• It is known as Read and Write Memory
because data can br overwritten.
• It is also called temporary memory or
cache memory
• The information stored in this type of
memory is lost when the power supply
to the PC or laptop is switched off.
• Volatile memory because data
disappears when turned off.
ROM- Read Only Memory
• ROM is a permanent type of memory.
• Its content is not lost when the power
supply is switched off.
• The computer manufacturer decides
the information of ROM, and it is
permanently stored at the time of
manufacturing which can not be
overwritten by the user.
• Non-Volatile Memory because the
data in the memory does not
disappear.
Secondary Memory/ External Memory
• Stores large volumes of
data.
• Is used to store
permanent data.
• Is non-volatile - means it
retains its data with or
without electrical
power.
HOW IT WORKS??
DVD-ROM
The DVD-ROM is high capacity optical disc capable
of storing 4.7 GB to 17GB.
DVD+R
It is similar to CD-Rs which allows user to
write on the disc once but read it many
times.
DVD+RW
Most writable DVD drives are DVD+RW.
We can erase and read many times on
them.
HD-DVD
It can store 2 to 4 times data as compared
to standard DVD.
Pen-Drive
A pen drive, or a USB flash drive,
is a portable data- storage device.
Currently available pen drives with
storage capacities ranging from 4GB
and 128GB
It can be used to store graphics-
heavy documents, photos, music files
and video clips.
