Writer’s introduction
Seraffin was born on 26th March 1871, His brother Joaquin on
20th January 1873. Both were born in uthrera, south east of
sevilla. The family was wealthy enough to allow the brothers to
choose a theatrica carrer, in which they swiftly achieved fame.
From their very first stage piece Gilito in 1989 Los hermanas
Quinteros were the golden boys of madrid theatre. They always
wrote as a partnership.Even after his brother’s death in the
Midst of the civil war on 12th April 1938 Joaquin continued to
write in both their names until his own death just over six
years.
Cont……
 Later on 14th June 1944 the virtues of the Quinterous
writings include good taste, solid construction and shafts of
that Brooding , poetic imagination which created such a stir
in their work with serrano at the turn of the century , notably
the passionate short dramas EL mal de amores and La reina
mora. The brother’s best known works are the comedies
,The flower (1901), Asunny morning (1905) , and The merry
heart (1906) as well as the uncharacteristically serious
Malvaloca (1912). Several of their plays were translated into
English by Helen and Harley Granvile Braker (1927-32).
MAIN THEME OF THE DRAMA
A Sunny Morning is a refreshingly new
romantic comedy. It tells the story of Don
Gonzalo and Dona Laura who was ardent
Lovers in their youth but was torn apart in life
by fate. However, the two lovers meet again
when they are in their 70s, not as lovers but as
Total strangers unexpectedly, in a madrid park.
The phrase ‘romantic comedy’ denotes a form
of drama in which love is the main theme and
love leads to a happy ending.
SUMMARY OF THE DRAMA
A Sunny Morning is the builton the central theme of a love affair
with two ex-lovers in their 70s reuniting in a park and reminiscing
about their romantic past. During their youth ,they were stranged
from each other deu to ill luck and Dona’s parent’s unfavourable
roles.
Gonzalo and Dona are pretty old now having outlived their
youthful exuberance and allure. When they first meet at the park,
they are unable to recognize each other. However, they
subsequently earns that they know each other but do not divulge
their true identities to each other. Dona Gonzola angrered Dona
laura as he scared away the birds she was feeding. Dona seems to
be irritated since the bench he usually uses is already occupied by
three priests.
Cont…….
And he finds no vacant bench there. But she shares the
bench with him. Then there is verbal combat by laura,
he also replied at the beginning but gave up soon and
reconciled with her and also offered her a pinch of
snuff. Gongalo says he is from valencia and laura says
that she is from maricela. When Don Gonzalo reads from
Campoamor’s ‘Twenty years pass. He returns’, also he
talks about his history of visiting America, and he
belongs to Valencia, Dona also says she is from
maricela, he recalls the most beautiful women Dona
laura, she also talks about the gallant man Ganzalo,
then both felt that they were the lovers in the past. But
they chose to pretend to hide their identities.
ABOUT MAJOR CHARACTERS
Laura lived at Maricela in Valencia. She was
known as ‘The Silver Maiden’ in her locality. She
is now white hair old lady of about seventy,
refined in appearance. Her bright eyes and entire
manner gives evidence that despite her age her
mental faculities are unimpaired. At the first
reference itself the old lady is described quite
differently as ‘handsome’ which is a word usually
associated with men. Laura’s parents wanted to get
her married to merchant but she was inlove with don
gonzalo then she left her home one afternoon and went
to the beach. She engrossed herself in gonzala’s
thoughts.
CONCLUSION\ MESSAGE
Their arguments are the typical humour that
entertains the audience. Throughout the play
‘aside’ technique has been used in which a
character expresses his or her intention to the
audience which is not to the other character. The
play ends with their promise to meet the next day
with a rhetorical question where the answer is not
expected.
The play is simple , however it keeps the
audience engaged with a happy mood. It gives the
message that all the things are not as reveal the bitter
truth that can ruin their image.
