Objectives of Physics
 Cambridge IGCSE Physics enables learners to:
• Increase their understanding of the technological world.
• Take an informed interest in scientific matters.
• Recognise the usefulness (and limitations) of scientific method, and how to apply
this to other disciplines and in everyday life.
• Develop relevant attitudes, such as a concern for accuracy and precision,
objectivity, integrity, enquiry and initiative.
• Develop an interest in, and care for, the environment.
• Better understand the influence and limitations placed on scientific study by society,
economy, technology, ethics, the community and the environment.
• Develop an understanding of the scientific skills essential for both further study and
everyday life.
Topics to be covered

 Students will study the following topics:

1 General physics
2 Thermal physics
3 Properties of waves, including light and sound
4 Electricity and magnetism
5 Atomic physics
6 Space Physics
In IGCSE I General physics and Thermal physics will be taught. Rest of the course
will be covered in IGCSE II and IGCSE III.
Details of the assessment
 Extended Assessment
Extended candidates take the following papers that have questions based on the Core and Supplement subject
content:
Paper 2 – Multiple Choice (Extended)
45 minutes, 40 marks
Forty compulsory multiple-choice items of the four-choice type.
Paper 4 – Theory (Extended)
1 hour 15 minutes, 80 marks
Short-answer and structured questions.
 Paper 6 – Alternative to Practical Test
1 hour, 40 marks
This paper tests assessment in a written paper.
