Workshop: How To Take Class Notes: By: Ccampis - Kayla Taylor

This 1-hour workshop covers effective note-taking strategies for class. It discusses why note-taking is important, as most information is forgotten quickly without notes. Three common note-taking methods are presented: Cornell notes which use a two-column format, outlines to organize information hierarchically, and mind maps to visualize relationships. The workshop encourages students to try different methods, review old notes, and rewrite notes after class for effective learning and exam preparation.

Trying Out New Note Taking Methods

 For example, say you’re studying your history book and come to a chapter on
Causes of the Civil War. Go through and highlight your book and then come back
to a blank notebook and write out your notes!

 This is better than trying out a new method in class and let’s you know if you’re
comfortable with this new system first!
Discussion
 After what you’ve now learned, how do you think your note taking methods are going to
change?

 Did you find a method you immediately liked?

 Are you going to try all three?

 What are your opinions of the note taking methods? Are they too busy? Do they seem just right?

 What concerns you the most about trying a new note taking method?
