EFFECTS OF DIGITAL

TECHNOLOGY

As a result of
the digital revolution,
the world of education is
currently undergoing a massive
transformation.
We are living in a world where technology in the
classroom is advancing ever so rapidly. We are able to
access information, collaborate with peers and
professors, and create new types of content in a vast
number of ways...
Much has been made about
the new generation of
technology-savvy students’
currently in and entering
college.
These students possess unprecedented
levels of skill with information
technology; they think about and use
technology very differently from earlier
students cohorts.

The ever changing perception of the role

of technology in our society provides
educators with a myriad of challenges and
problems for the curriculum.
Technology is alternately seen as a major
source of society's problems.
WHY ?
There are two roots of
this issue.
First,
college students of today matured as
technology matured they can’t live without using
a computer or smartphone in everyday life.
Homeworks and other school activities are often
plagiarized by students and gain no learning at
all.
Second,
even if students want to avoid the
distractions of technology, the use of
computers is a necessity in today’s
educational systems, thus unavoidable.
These two points support the
argument that students of the digital
age are literally wired differently in
productive habits than previous
generations.
As an obvious point, some students are very
responsible and constantly stay on task. This
issue is not about the said students, it is about
those who struggle to focus on school because
they want an education but are tempted by
technology.
So what are students to do when a paper is due
in a week but browsing through new music is so
much more inviting and using facebook is much
exciting ? ? ?
The issue of technology distracting from
productivity is greater than the well being of
students, it affects the nation’s future by our
investment in the competence of today’s
students.
Note that society is in desperate need of
individuals capable of finding sustainable
solutions to a variety of challenges and the need
for future citizens who can function effectively
in a modern technological society.
These needs have prompted many
leaders to suggest that education now
need to implement methods of teaching
that can enhance the problem solving
ability of students.
So whether it be on the students, parents,
locale, or college, the instruction of
productive habits must be addressed,
discussed, and developed greatly to insure
the progression of people as a whole.
By embracing new technologies and by
involving students as planning partners,
we look forward to the next wave of
innovation with anticipation instead of
dread.
Oh what a brave new world lies
ahead of us!
Thank you!
