Dissemination of Research Findings
Dissemination of Research Findings
RESEARCH FINDINGS.
• It is part of the research process,
nurses who finish research need
to plan their dissemination
strategy.
• May include a final written report
often wanted by the funding
organisation.
• Papers written for academic and
professional audiences which can
either be local, regional or
international.
• Can be presented at conferences
and research meetings.
• Can be presented verbally
through conference papers or
virtual hosting online.
• Final research report , academic
and professional journal papers
and short research reports are
other forms of disseminating
information.
• Consider the audience.
• Draft what is to included.
• Information dissemination assists
in making people know about
what has to be done.
• Also stimulate other researchers
to develop ideas and add to
research findings through their
own researches or consider
implications for change in clinical
practice.
• The accepted format for articles,
papers and reports follow a
sequence as as Introduction_
materials and methods- results-
discussion- conclusion- summary
and references.
Report
• Presents the research journey.
And is often required by the
funding body and may need to be
written to a specified brief.
• It includes detail of the research
process, outcomes and
recommendations for future
practice.
• Can be a peer reviewed journal
which is acceptable.
• Research team has to know when
its required, what is expected and
to whom it should be sent.
Publication of a research paper
• It can be in a peer reviewed
journal, electronic publication of
web pages or CD-ROM, a
podcast( verbal presentation that
can be downloaded onto mobile
devices such as mobile phone).
• Can be dissemination of any
products of the research such as
teaching materials or guide-lines
which are normally requested by
some funders of educational
research.
DISSERTATIONS AND THESIS
• Nurses studying at
undergraduate, masters and
doctoral levels will often be
required to present their research
as a dissertation or thesis.
• It is written to meet certain
specific criteria.
• Thesis is a more in-depth piece of
work presented as part of a
written examination of a
professional Doctoral
programme.
Conference Presentation
• These are either advertised
online and through mailings.
• They vary in audience and style,
i.e. a novice might want a small
audience .
• Some offer a themed approach
and place common papers
together in small groups.
• Small groups are non-threatening
than large conferences.
• Conferences are focused on
particular specialisms i.e. critical
care, cancer care , nurse
education etc
• Normally research results are
what people want to hear.
Oral Presentations.
• If the abstract is selected for oral
presentation the conference
organisers will contact the
presenter, providing details of the
date, time and location of the
presentation.
• Power-point presentation is used
and a verbal presentation of a
paper or other text such as
poems may be presented.
• Time allocation should be
adhered to when doing a
presentation.
Poster Presentations
• Time is usually allocated for
poster presentations during
conferences .
• Presenters should be available to
discuss the poster content at
these times.
• They can be presented through
verbal presentations of the
poster content.
• Transportability also needs to
thought of .
