Gifi

Gi-Fi uses an integrated wireless chip with a small antenna for both transmission and reception to allow for the fast transfer of large files and videos within seconds. It provides advantages over older technologies like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi such as higher speeds, better security, flexibility and portability. Potential applications of Gi-Fi include transferring video and sharing files between devices. Within a few years, Gi-Fi is expected to become the dominant technology for wireless networking by providing low-cost, high-speed connectivity.

Introduction to GI-FI

• Gi-Fi which is developed on an integrated wireless transceiver chip. In which a small

antenna used and both transmitter- receiver integrated on a single chip which is
fabricated using the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process.
Because of Gi-Fi transfer of large videos, files will be within seconds.
• The Gi-Fi is the technology which transfers data in giga bits per second using
millimeter wave frequencies. It is defined in IEEE 802.15.3C standard. It is developed
by NICTA Australia. The Gi-Fi devices form wireless PAN network within coverage of
few meters. Subscriber station communicates with sever APs in LOS communication.

WHY GI-FI IS USED :

The reason for pushing into Gi-Fi technology is because of

slow rate, high power consumption, low range of frequency
operations of earlier technologies i.e. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi,
see the comparisons and features of those two technologies
BLUETOOTH AND WIFI
Working  OF GI FI

 It uses Time Division Duplex for both transmission and receiving

 Conversion of data from IF range to RF 60Ghz range
 The incoming RF signal is first down converted to an IF signal
centered at 5Ghz and then normal data ranges.
 Then uses heterodyne principle for this process to avoid leakages.
 And then data is transferred.
FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES

High Speed Data Transfer

Provides High Security
Flexibility
Small in size
ØHighly portable
ØHigh mobility
APPLICATIONS

      TECHNOLOGY CONSERATIONS

• Due to less cost of chip so many companies are looking  forward

to launch with lower cost.
• Specifically, wireless HD  has  a  stated  goal  of enabling
wireless  connectivity  for  streaming High definition content
between source devices and high-definition displays.
Future scope

Within next few years, we expect GI-FI to be the dominant technology for wireless

networking. By providing low-cost, high broadband access, with very high speed
large files swapped within seconds it could develop wireless home and office of
future.
CONCLUSION
If the success of Wi-Fi and
the imminent wide usage
of Wi-Max is any indication,
Gi-Fi potentially can
bring wireless broadband to
the enterprise in an
entirely new way
