What are materials?
Material is something which is used to make objects.

Material can be classified based on their properties
such as flexibility, hardness, strength and absorbency.
Let’s look at some different types of materials
Wood
We get wood from trees.

It is hard,
strong,
inflexible
and
brown.
That’s why objects made of wood are hard
and strong.
Metal
It is made from rocks.
Metal is hard, strong, silver and
shiny.
It is used to make vehicles, tools, to
construct building and bridges.
Glass
It is made from very fine sand.
Glass is fragile (can be broken
easily) and transparent.
Rubber
Rubber comes from
plants.
It is stretchable, water
proof and can be bend
easily.
Fabric
It is made of cotton, wool, silk,
nylon and polyester.
It is light, soft, flexible and
absorbent.
That’s why it is perfect for
clothing.
Plastic
Plastics are hard,
smooth and water
proof.
Paper
Paper is made of
wood.
It is smooth,
light, absorbent
and can be torn
easily.
