Cable Routing

Cable routing refers to the installation of equipment to secure cables for electrical
services in a building .The term is used for products or workmanship. Cable
management is important in information technology(IT), communications, and power
distribution.
Cable routing both supports and contains cables during installation, and makes subsequent
maintenance or changes to the cable system easier.
Methods of cable routing:
Cable Trays.
Conduits (Pipes).
Underground Cable.
CableTrays:
It should be taken into account that cable trays are made of white and galvanized sheet
with cover.

Cable Trays.

– Cable routing method is chosen according to the nature of the project.

– It is preferred to use cable tray for industrial projects as it is better in heat leakage than routin
g in pipes.

It consists of two longitudinal side parts connected by transverse junction and it is designed for power ca
bles or control cable.

Notes
• For light current cable tray, it should be as shown in figure.
• The components and accessories of cable tray are made from aluminum or steel se
ctions which not get rusted or with surfaces by additional layer from EPOXY Paint.
• Cable tray should be earthed as pipes and metal Structures carrying conductors.
• The cut terminals should be smooth enough in order not to scratch the cables.

• Distance between every two neighboring cable son any tray shouldn't exceed the e
xternal diameter for the bigger one in case of single phase cables and shouldn't exc
eed double the external diameter for the bigger one in case of 3phasecables.
• If the cables are close apart from each other on the tray, grouping factor should be
applied.
• The trays are installed in equal spaces every(1.5m) at most and special connections
of trays should be from the same manufacturer.
• Incase of using trays with cross-sectional metal laminations, the distance between t
wo successive laminations doesn't exceed 30 cm.
