Teaching Methods: Direct Method

The document outlines several teaching methods including direct, indirect, research-based, personality-driven, principle-centered, and meta-cognitive approaches. The direct method involves teacher-led lectures without student involvement, while the indirect method focuses on inquiry learning and giving students an active role. Research-based approaches jointly develop new knowledge through student research. Personality-driven methods motivate behavior change through intrinsic motivation. Principle-centered teaching empowers students to realize their potential. Meta-cognitive approaches generate deep thinking and help students gain awareness of learning tasks and strategies.

Teaching Methods

Direct Method:
Direct method Expository method

It is teacher-directed method. Teacher presents information in

front of class through the use of demonstration & visual aids.
Teacher delivers lecture without involving students in the
process.
• Indirect (Guided) Method:
Indirect method Exploratory method
• Indirect approach focuses on inquiry learning & use of students
ideas, it provokes their thinking, imagination & thought organizing
skills e.g, problem solving strategies

• In this approach, teacher plays a role of facilitator & thought

synthesizer. Teacher gives the student an active role in the learning
process.
• Research based/ Problem based Approach:
This form of teaching & learning focuses on the joint acquisition
of new knowledge by teacher & student, by doing research in any field
of interest. Teacher discuss about possibilities & difficulties in the class,
face by the students while doing research about any topic.

This method encouraging students to ask questions and investigate

their own ideas, it helps improve their problem solving skills as well as
gain deeper understanding of academic concepts.
Personality Driven Approach:

Teacher plays an effective role to motivate behavior change among students using
various strategies, which in return increase their efficiency & bring positive change
in learner’s personality. Teacher provides intrinsic motivation to students in
achieving their academic goals.
Principle Centered Approach:

Teacher empowers the student by aiding them to realize their

potentials. To achieve the fundamental goal of education, it is
important to realize one’s abilities. If any student has focus &
confidence, teacher encourages his potential in a productive way and
show him the right path. This approach promotes creativity, emotional
stability & shared vision.
Meta Cognitive Approach:

Meta means big & cognition means thinking, so it means deep thinking.

Teacher must generate cognitive behavior among students. Cognitive behavior is

that learning process that refers to a student’s cognitive involvement and active

participation in specific learning task. The goal of meta cognition is to help

students gain conscious awareness of the task given to him. It fosters forethought

and self-reflection. By using this method teacher plan, monitor and assess

learner’s understanding and performance and how he use appropriate strategies

Learning Methods
• Practice Testing include self-testing or taking practice tests over to be
learned material e.g; completing practice problems
• Distributed Practice: Implementing a schedule of practice that spreads
out study activities over time
• Elaborative Interrogation: Generating an explanation for why a fact or
concept is true
• Self- explanation: Explaining how new information is related to known
information or explaining steps taken during problem solving
• Interleaved Practice: Implementing a schedule of practice that mixes
different kinds of problem, or a schedule of study that mixes different
kinds of material, within a single study session
• Summarization: It is a vital skill for students to learn. Identify the main
idea & most important facts, than writing a brief overview that
includes only those key ideas & details
• Rereading: Restudying text material again after an initial reading. The
text get revisited or rethought
• Keyword mnemonics: Using keywords and mental imagery to
associate verbal material
• Imagery of text: Attempting to form mental images of text materials
while reading or listening
• Highlighting/ Marking: Marking important portions of to be learned
materials while reading
