Title: Biometric Security System Using Arduino and Fingerprint Sensor For School Examination Cente

This document describes a biometric security system using an Arduino and fingerprint sensor for school examination centers. The system allows up to 20 users to register their fingerprints and IDs. During authentication, it checks the fingerprint against stored templates and opens a gate if a match is found. The system aims to only allow verified users to prevent impersonation during exams. It uses an Arduino, fingerprint sensor, buttons, LEDs, LCD display, and servo motor. The document outlines the working principle, circuit diagram, resources required, concepts used, results and analysis, advantages, disadvantages and applications of the system.

1.INTRODUCTION:
 Fingerprint Recognition: The fingerprints are unique, don't change in the time
and are different also in identical twins. The form and the dimensions of the hand
can be used as distinctive characteristics.

 Fingerprint Based Exam Hall Authentication: The Fingerprint Based

Exam Hall Authentication is designed to pass only users verified by
their fingerprint scan and block non verified users. Our system consists
of a fingerprint scanner connected to a microcontroller circuit. In
registration mode, the system allows us to register up to 20 users and
save their identity with respective id numbers in the system memory.
After storage, the person needs to first scan his finger on the scanner.
The microcontroller now checks the person’s fingerprint validity. If the
fingerprint is authorized the microcontroller now sends a signal to a
motor driver. The motor driver now operates a motor to open a gate

2. Block Diagram And Working Principle

Working Principle:
In this project, we have used a gate that will be open when we place
stored finger at the finger print module. First of all, the user needs to
enroll finger with the help of push button/keys. To do this user need to
press ENROLL key and then LCD asks for entering location/ID where
finger will be a store. So now user needs to enter ID (Location) by using
UP/DOWN keys. After selecting Location/ID user needs to press an OK
key (DEL key). Now LCD will ask for placing finger over the finger print
module. Now user needs to put his finger over finger print module. Then
LCD will ask to remove the finger from finger print module and again ask
for placing the finger.
Now user needs to put his finger again over finger print module.
Now finger print module takes an image and converts it into templates
and stores it by selected ID in to the finger print module’s memory. Now
user can open the gate by placing the same finger that he/she have added
or enrolled into the system and then press MATCH key (UP/Down key).
By the same method, the user can add more fingers
3. CIRCUIT DIAGRAM AND ITS
EXPLAINATION
Circuit Diagram:
• Explaination of Circuit diagram:
The circuit of this Ardino Fingerprint Security System is very simple
which contains Ardino which controls whole the process of the project,
push button, buzzer, and LCD. Ardino controls the complete processes.
The push button is directly connected to pin D14(ENROL),D15(DEL),
D16(UP) and D17(DOWN) of Arduino with respect to ground And Yellow
LED is connected at Digital pin D7 of Ardino with respect to ground
through a 1k resistor and Green LED is connected to D6 of Ardino with the
same method. Finger Print Module’s Rx and Tx directly connected at
Software Serial or Digital pin D2 and D3 of Ardino. 5v supply is used for
powering finger print module taken from Arduino board and Servo motor
is also connected to PWM pin D5 of Arduino.
A 16x2 LCD is configured in 4-bit mode and its RS, EN, D4, D5, D6, and
D7 are directly connected at Digital pin D13, D12, D11, D10, D9, and D8
of Arduino. (here D14, D15, D16, D17 are A0, A1, A2, A3 respectively)
4. RESOURCES REQUIRED
1. Arduino Uno
2. Finger Print Module
3. Push Button -4 / touchpad
4. LEDs -2
5. 1K Resistor -3
 6. 2.2K resistor -1`
 7. Power Supply
8. Connecting wires
9. Cardboard Box
10. Servo Motor -1
11. 16x2 LCD -1
12. Bread Board -1
5. CONCEPT USED:
The examination impersonation elimination system that uses
manual identification. In identification, the system recognizes an
individual by comparing his/her biometrics with every record in
the database. In general, biometric identification consists of two
stages: Enrollment and Authentication. During enrollment, the
biometrics of the user is captured (using a fingerprint reader,
which are likely to be an optical, solid state or an ultrasound
sensor or other suitable device) and the unique features are
extracted and stored in a database as a template for the subject
along with the student ID. The objective of the enrolment module
is to admit a student using his/her ID and fingerprints into a
database after feature extraction. These features form a template
that is used to determine the identity of the student, formulating
the process of authentication. The enrollment process is carried
out by an administrator in the examination system.
6. RESULT, AND ANALYSIS
Result: By using this project the design and implementation
of ID authentication system based on Fingerprint Identification
is designed, and finally, the problem at hand, which is exam
student impersonation and corruption is Tertial Education
will be demolished and to demonstrate that anything can be
achieved using computer technology in this fast growing
Information Technology and computer communication world .
Simulation phase of this project has been achieved, with the
following devices: Microcontroller (Atmega 328), LCD
display deviceLM016L),regulated DC power supply, Keypad
phone, Virtual Terminal, X1 Crystal clocking, Variable Resistor
, andCapacitors.Regulated DC power supply is used for
powering the devices on the system
Analysis:
Although it was not an easy job, to prove that the proposed system is
working according to how the real systems work. This was proved by
implementing the project in simulation but its working according to the
way it is intended to work.By simulating this project one will see the
display on the LCD, the system writing the name of the project
“Fingerprint based exam hall Authentication”, few seconds later it will
display the following message: “PUT YOUR FINGER” this is just to
tell the subject (student) to be authenticated to put her/his finger on the
fingerprint scanner for it to be able to read his/her fingerprints, after
that if the student is authentic then the following message will be
displayed: “ENTER YOUR PASSKEY”, this is a password that every
registered student got during registration/enrolment phase, and if the
password entered is correct then access is granted, so the following
message will be displayed on the LCD display: “WELCOME,
ACCESS GRANTED” and the microcontroller will send the signal to
the motor driver that drives the door to open automatic.
6. ADVANTAGE, DISADVANTAGES, AND ITS
APPLICATION

 Advantage:
1. It is to pass only users verified by their
fingerprint scan and block non verified
users.
2. It avoid fake people to enter in.
3. It is much more secure than LAZER security
and Password Based Security System.
4. It is a time saving system
• Disadvantages

1. Sometimes, due to some marks on finger , the

biometric finger print scanner is unable to scan
a verified users fingerprint too.
2. As it requires power supply to work , it gets
off when there is a power failure issue, and it
cannot detect anyone at that time.
Application
1. It is used in schools for teachers and student
identification and their attendance.
2. It is used in colleges.
3. It is used in offices.
4. It is used in industry, company.
5. It is also used in hospital for doctor’s identity
verification.
6. And in government offices and headquarters.

7. cONCLUSIOn:
 The system successfully identified and verified
the registered understudy fingerprint and stored
the verified understudy so that the lecturer can
retrieve the list of all understudies that was
verified to take an examination.
 The system gives the time when the understudy
was verified. In other words, the system generates
a report in real time using the understudy
fingerprint to avoid or prevent impersonation
