1
What is web design?
 Controversies
People who are doing this work have a clue about
what this term means. They do not agree at all. Web
design is mainly linked to the visual appearance of
web pages and programming.
 There are web designers who believe that the applied
technology are key: Java scripts, flash objects, cascading styles,
dynamically oriented Web.
 Next view favors the preparation and organization of site content.
 With the advent and expansion of e-commerce (e-commerce)
web site design further gains in importance.
 Most authors agree on one thing: the web site is the most
important way to represent the company on the Internet. 2
Genesis and Development
 Mosaic 1993: hypertext and multimedia content -
Image and sound: interactive pages

 Fashion trends in web design – time of applets and java

scripts. Cascade stylesheets. Static and dynamic design.

 “Button” navigation ring out...

Definition
 It is a very user-friendly design that is influenced by
visual media, technology, content and purpose.

 Web design is under constant influence innovation in

the field of printing, graphic design, programming,
client / server technology (in recent times, . NET
and three-tier architecture technologies).

 In one word - has become a multidisciplinary field of

work.

 Four main aspects:

 content,
 technology,
 visual elements,
4
 cost-effectiveness
Elements of good desing...
 It is difficult to determine what should be a good web design, and
it's much easier to point out what was not done well.
 Controversies: tastes are different, as elsewhere in
life ...
 Rule number 1:
GOOD DESIGN IS DESIGN ORIENTED TOWARDS USER
NEEDS!
 The designer must understand that its purpose is to
show what it can, but to meet the customers, the target
group.
 You are not user. User are not designers
 Good location must take into account the differences
between individuals, focusing on what is common among
them.
 To the required needs for information there is a simple
and easy way: the most with 3 mouse clicks!
5
Elements of good desing...
 Page contents are organized in the way that there are harmoniously
arranged white space (clearly distinguished by elements: header, body and
footer)
 The text is a fundamental means of expression. Image and other
multimedia objects are implemented to reinforce the impression...
 The fonts used must not be from the time of so called win 3.11. YuASCII
encoding.
 For texts on web pages in both Latin and Cyrillic character UTF-8 character
set should be used (system fonts: Arial, Times New Roman and Verdana)
 Typos word to be excluded. It is considered a great lack of text on the Web
where missing letter or letters are scrambled so that words have no
meaning.
 CAPITALIZING WORDS IN BODY PART OF SITE EXCEPT FOR TITLES,
TO BE EXCLUDED. It's just like when you yell at the user.

6
Elements of good desing...
 Web location (site) must have a uniform design and style defined: the
fonts used for headings, subheadings (CSS), image navigation, and so
on.
 Implemented images should be processed in the same way throughout
the site: eg. images were processed black snowboarders.
 The navigation menu should be implemented on every page, no matter
how significant she is. That’s for ease of movement through the site.
 Page load time for the assumed average users should not be longer
than 10 seconds.
 Optimization of page size: optimization of image and optimization of
HTML elements is required. That's why it should always be taken into
account.
 Interactive elements: e-mail via e-mail client on the user side, Instant
messaging via forms (pros and cons).

7
Elements of good desing...
 Monitoring traffic (statistics) of web site. Significance. Methods
of monitoring visits: Counter (unfashionable) sites to monitor
traffic, statistics web server that hosts the site.

 Compatibility of the content from the web browser.

 If with the appropriate HTML code for the width of the main
table or the corresponding layer (in Dreamweaver) it is not
defined an automatic width adjustment by the monitor of the
user, optimize the site in 1024 * 768 and of 17 "

 Web site, no matter how quality it is, must be regularly

maintained (updated).
