• MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Synthesis the mediator of inflammation to Inhibits the accumulation of
inflammatory cells at the inflammatory site.
• AVAILABLE FORMS:
Oral solution: 0.5ml/5ml
tablet: 0.25mg,1mg,4mg
injection: dexamethasone acetate:- 8-16mg/ml suspension
dexamethasone sodium phosphate: 4-24mg/ml
• ROUTES:
Oral, Intramuscular, Intravenous infusion , Topical
• INDICATIONS:
1) Anti-inflammatory 4) Cushing ‘s syndrome
2) cerebral edema 5) Hyaline membrane disease
3) shock 6) Chemotherapy
• CONTRA-INDICATION:
1) Myocardial infarction 4) Cirrhosis
2) GI Ulcers 5) osteoporosis
3) Renal disease 6) psychotic tendencies
• SIDE EFFECTS:
Arrythmias Muscle weakness
Cataract Hirsutism
Insomnia GI irritation
• NURSES RESPONSIBILITY:
Monitor patient’s weight ,BP, Glucose level and electrolyte levels.
Give with food when possible.
Avoid SC injection because atrophy occurs.
Not to withdraw without doctor’s order.
