Visualizing,Measuring
Deriving and
Finding the PERIMETER
of any given Plane Figure
In this lesson, you are expected to:
• Visualizes the perimeter of any
given plane figure in different
situations. M4ME-IIIg-48
• Measures and derive the formula for
perimeter of any given closed
figure.M4ME-IIIh-49
• Finds the perimeter of triangles,
squares, rectangles, parallelograms,
and trapezoids. M4ME-IIIi-51

The Perimeter is the distance around an object.
To determine the perimeter of any plane figure
you can add the length of all sides together.
To visualize the perimeter of any plane figure, let’s take the rectangle
below as our example.
Let’s count how many lines are there in each side. There are total of 14 lines,
so we can say that this rectangle has a perimeter of about 14 units.
To measure and solves the perimeter of any plane
figure, we need to use measuring tools such as ruler
or meter stick.
Ruler
or
Meter Stick
Using a ruler, we’re going to
measure each side of this
triangle, we found out that
each side is 4 cm. long. We
are now going to solve for
the perimeter of this triangle
using this formula:
5. 12cm
3. 12cm
7cm 4. 8m
15cm
10m 15cm
Group Activity
Hi I'm Sarah,
Kindly help me

my house.
Group Activity
Work together to find the answers to the given activity following the
guide questions:
a. What is the measurement of its sides?
b. What is the total distance of the figure?
c. How were you able to find the distance around the figure?
d. What formula can you derive to find the distance around the
figure?
e. Can you think of other ways to find the distance around the
figure?
f. If you are going to find the distance around the figure, how will
you do it?

Perimeter of the closed figure
For the square, we derived the
formula P=4s.
For the rectangle, we derived the
formula P=2l x 2w.
For an equilateral triangle, we
derived the formula P=3s.
Learning Task 2: Count the number of units to determine
the perimeter of each figure. Write your answer inside
each figure.

Figure Name Formula in finding
its Perimeter
Triangle P= s + s + s or
P= 3s
Square P= s + s + s + s

Trapezoid P= a + b + c + d
Parallelogram P= a + a + b + b
P = 2a + 2b
Learning Task 3: Matching type: Identify what is
referred to in column A with the terms in column B.
A B
__________1. It refers to the measure
of all sides in a polygon. A.P= s + s + s
__________2. It is an example of
measuring tool in finding the B.P = s + s + s + s + s
perimeter of a plane figure.
__________3. Formula in finding the C.P = s + s + s + s

perimeter of rectangle.
Learning Task 4. Follow the directions.
1. Draw a rectangle.
2. Measure its sides. Then, write the
measurements on its corresponding sides.
3. Write the formula to find the perimeter of
the figure you drew.
4. Find the perimeter.
Learning Task 5: Find the perimeter of the following.
Write your answer inside
the figure.
Learning Task 6: Draw, label and find the perimeter of
the following:
1. A square with a side that measures 7 dm.
P= s + s + s + s or P= 4s
