hot weather concrete
Definition
“Hot weather concrete is any combination of the following condition that tends to
impair the quality of freshly mixed or harden concrete by accelerating the rate of
moisture loss and rate of hydration.”
Conditions of hot WEATHER concrete

• Objectives of successful cold weather concrete
ACI Definition of cold weather:
• Cold Weather - A period when, for more than 3 consecutive days, the
following conditions exist:
• The Average daily air temperature is less than 40 ºF (5 ºC), and
• The air temperature is not greater than 50 ºF (10 ºC).

Why is cold weather a problem?
• Hot water
• Heat Aggregate
• Accelerating admixtures
• Air entraining agent
Protection in field:
• Definition :
Self-curing concrete is one type of modern concrete, which cure itself by
retaining water (moisture content) in it. The use of POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL
in conventional concrete as an admixture helps better hydration and hence
the strength of concrete
advantages
• Sometimes work are carried out where there is acute shortage of water and
the application of water curing is not possible due to economy reason.
• Prevention of moisture loss from the surface of flat concrete works such as
highways and airports have been challenging task for construction
managers.
