DETAILED SYLLABUS
Module I: Sampling and Reconstruction (8 Lectures)
• Introduction to digital control system, Examples of Data control
systems, Sampler, Sampling Theorem, Data Reconstruction:
Digital to Analog conversion and Analog to Digital conversion,
sample and hold operations.
Module II: Modeling discrete-time systems by pulse transfer
function (8 Lectures)
• Revisiting Z-transform: Introduction to Z – transforms,
Theorems of Z – Transforms, inverse Z-transforms, Z-
Transform method for solving difference equations. Mapping of
S-plane to Z-plane, Pulse transfer function, Pulse transfer
function of closed loop system, sampled signal flow graph
Module III: State Space Analysis (12 Lectures)
• State variables, State model for linear continuous-time system.
Types of state models, Eigen value and Eigen vectors, Solution of
state equation, State transition matrix and its Properties.
• Discrete state space model: Introduction to state variable model,
various canonical forms, Characteristic equation, state transition
matrix, Solution to discrete state equation.
Module IV: Controllability, Observability & Stability (8 Lectures)
• Concepts of Controllability and Observability, Tests for
controllability and Observability Duality between Controllability
and Observability. Stability analysis of discrete time systems: Jury
stability test Stability analysis using Bi-linear transformation.
Module V: State Feedback Controller (6 Lectures)
• Design of state feedback controller through pole placement – Necessary
and sufficient conditions.
• Observer: Full Order Observer, Reduced Order Observer. Lyapunov
Stability Theorem.
