Flange coupling
• Flange Coupling is a driving coupling between rotating shafts that consists
of flanges one of which is fixed at the end of each shaft, the two Flanges
being bolted together with a ring of bolts to complete the drive. A flange
coupling meant to bring two tube ends together in a flush, sealed manner.
This two-piece coupling unit consists of a key receiving side for the
flanged end to be fastened to, so it may be attached to the opposing tube
end, which also has a flanged end.
• Applications: It is used to join two pieces of rotating equipment while
permitting some degree of misalignment and for the Purpose of
transmitting power and torque.

Advantages and disadvantages
of Flange coupling:
• Advantages of rigid flange coupling :
• High torque transmitting capacity.
• Easy to assemble and dismantle.
• Simple in construction.
• Easy to design and manufacture.
• Applications: They are used where the shafts don’t require any alignments
and load capacity is light to medium duty
Split Muff coupling
• In this coupling, the muff or sleeve is made into two halves parts of the
cast iron and they are joined together by means of mild steel studs or bolts.
The advantages of this coupling is that assembling or disassembling of the
coupling is possible without changing the position of the shaft. This
coupling is used for heavy power transmission at moderate speed.
