Open Loop and Closed Loop Control System

The document discusses open loop and closed loop control systems. An open loop system's control action is independent of the system's output, while a closed loop system continuously measures and feeds back the output to the input to compensate for disturbances. Examples of open loop systems include immersion heaters and toasters, while air conditioners and geysers are examples of closed loop systems. The key difference is that closed loop systems have feedback to improve accuracy, while open loop systems rely on user experience.

Open loop control System

• An open loop control system is the is a system in which the control action is totally independent of
output of the system.

• The accuracy of the system depends on the experience of user.

Example 1) Immersion water heater

2) Toaster

Feedback

• In closed control system , the output is measured continuously and is fed back to the input.

• The presence of feedback compensates for the disturbance and improves the accuracy of the
system

• Example : 1) Air conditioner 2) Geyser. 5
