ASSIGNMENT
THE ADJECTIVE
DEFINATION:
IT IS WORD THAT ADD SOMETHING IN THE
MEANING OF A NOUN.
EXAMPLES:
1. HE IS A BRAVE BOY.
2. HE IS A FAST DRIVER.
3. MY SISTER IS A STRONG GIRL.
( IN THESE EXAMPLES BRAVE ,FAST ,STRONG
ARE ADJECTIVE).
ATTRIBUTIVELY AND PREDICATIVELY
FOR EXAMPLE:
1. THE LAZY BOY WAS PUNISHED.
2. THE BOY IS LAZY.
(IN FIRST EXAMPLE LAZY USED WITH NOUN THEN
IT IS ATTRIBUTE OR EPITHET)
(IN SECOND EXAMPLE LAZY USED WITH VERB(IS)
THEN IT IS PREDICATE OR PREDICATIVELY)
TYPES OF ADJECTIVE
FOR EXAMPLES:
i. THE HAND HAS FIVE FINGERS.
IN COMPARATIVE DEGREE:
• THAN IS USED TO MAKE COMPARISON.
• ONE THING SHOULD BE COMPARED WITH ONE THING.
• THE DEGREE SHOULD NOT BE DOUBLED.
IN SUPERLATIVE DEGREE:
• THE COMPARISON IS MADE BETWEEN THREE OR MORE
THINGS OR PERSON.
• THE MUST BE USED BEFORE SUPERLATIVE DEGREE.
• OF IS GENERALLY USED AFTER DEGREE.
• THE DEGREE SHOULD NOT BE DOUBLD.
SOME FACTS ABOUT ADJECTIVE
e.g:
• He is taller than any other man in the town.
3) When two adjectives used in a sentence , refer to the
same noun and one of them is in superlative degree ,the
other should be in the same degree.
e.g:
• He is the ablest and the richest person of the city.
4) If no comparison is made then use the
word very before adjective .
e.g:
• He wrote a very good book .
• He is very bad scholar.
5) The following adjective not need any superlative degree.
e.g:
(perfect ,excellent ,chief , worldwide, round, extreme
,circular)
